We pulled into the campsite and were met by 2 scruffy disused double decker buses, it looked like a junk yard.

No one appeared to direct us to a pitch. We looked at the toilet and shower which were filthy. Eventually a small child appeared carrying a cauliflower (possibly to feed animals)

We left immediately and had to hurriedly find somewhere else to stay which wasn't easy (3pm in school holidays).

I hope we have not been unjust in this criticism but don't want anyone else to make the same mistake.

I cannot recommend this campsite enough if you want a place which offers a beautiful location and clean basic facilities. This is a real get-away-from-it-all place with friendly owners, large pitches, campfires and stunning night skies. We spent a week here and this is probably the only place I would return to even though my preference is always to try somewhere new.

Little Shattering Farm is a charming little camp site/farm. From the warm welcome to the various paddocks of animals out stay (long weekend bank holiday) was pretty close to perfect.

Pitch - the tent pitches are without marked boundaries and consist of nice well kept soft grass without stones, all peg types held well (good soil). There is a fence and good gates separating the field from others with horses/ goats etc providing a secure area for children to play. There is shelter from wind provided by several 'walls' of trees.

Facilities - best described as spotlessly clean but basic, with one shower and one toilet (in the same room) will possibly cause an issue in the mornings, although we never had to que, a work site type toilet was also provided (didn't need it). Children loved the animals and as a strange twist the sound of lions and monkeys from the local wildlife park could be clearly heard in the evenings.

Will be returning again hopefully for longer.
Management response: Thank you for your feed back, we have taken this on board and added an extra Outside Hot shower, which is proving very popular, and also added an extra Camping toilet.

We have Electric Hook up available

Our intention is to still create a site that gives each visitor plenty of room for relaxing holiday.

Fire pits and logs, we actively encourage you to bring your own, but if you cant, you can hire one of ours but it is £35 for the duration, be it 1 night or 21 nights ! still the same price, logs are £5 a basket Marshmallows can be purchased from the local shop to complete your fireside experience !

We look forward to seeing you

This is a first season for the campsites I think they have some tweaking.

Firstly the positives:

The owners are really friendly and helpful. Any issues they come straight away and sort things out.

It's a small site and not over crowded. People camp round the edges which leaves the centre for kids to play.

It's a farm so there's horses, chickens, goats for the kids to look at. You can hear the lions roaring in Wingham wildlife park from the campsite!

It's close to Canterbury

Negatives

You can have a fire pit which for us is a big positive. But £35 to hire and £10 for wood is very steep and we wouldn't normally go to a site charging that much!

The toilet block is an area that needs to be looked at ASAP! There is one room that contains a toilet and shower. So as you can imagine in the morning it's a nightmare because if someone is showering you can't go to the loo. That said they were clean with plenty of toilet role.

I think if the owners can sort the shower/toilet situation this will be a top little site. If your the sort of campers that like kids play area and club house then do not book here. If you are campers that like to get back to nature and have a fire pit then you'll love this site.

We've just returned from a weekend camping trip here, 2 adults and 2 older children.

Good points - It's a lovely area, with plenty to do nearby. The camping pitches were very generous, not rigidly marked out, reasonably flat, grassy and pleasantly nestled near the animal enclosures (goats, hens, horses). It was lovely to be able to have a camp fire too, as it was particularly chilly! We thought it was reasonably priced and there was a helpful welcome pack with information about the local area.

Negative points - We're used to campsites with basic facilities, however as mentioned by the previous reviewer, the toilet facilities here are rather inadequate. There is just one (strangely large) toilet/shower room for use by 16(?) pitches I think. Only 6 pitches were in use when we were there, but there were still times when we had to wait to use the toilet. I hate to think what it would be like if the campsite were full! I don't think they've been open long so I would expect some teething problems, but there is plenty of space and outbuildings and this is something that really needs to be sorted out. Also there is no hot water other than the shower and no washing up facilities at all.

The other negative for us was probably the road. The farm and campsite are right on the busy A257, so there was a lot of road noise, although it did quieten down for a period overnight.

The office was closed while we were there, as I think the owners were away, so I can't really comment on day to day helpfulness of the owners or staff. Someone did however bring firewood for us (after we sent a text message requesting some)!
