My and the dog's first glamping experience. A fabulous little site of a dozen pods, we could even see the sea from our porch!
Situated just off the A171 you can hear the traffic on site but this is drastically reduced once the pod doors are closed and traffic is minimal after 9pm.
A well laid out, landscaped site, the pods are spacious and have lighting and plug sockets and also come equipped with a heater (essential in January) which combined with the insulation made for a nice cosy stay despite a heavy frost on one night and a gale blowing through on another. Each pod has it's own picnic table and BBQ stand as well as a small deck and porch area.
The facilities are in the pub (pot wash is outside) and are very clean and well maintained. The hot water for the showers takes a little while to come through but is lovely and warm when it does. Don't know about the men's shower room but the Ladies has underfloor heating so no nasty shocks when you take your shoes and socks off. As it was the first week in January the dog and I had the place to ourselves after the first night when all the people staying over New Year went home so I never had to queue for the toilets, shower or pot wash which you might have to when the site is full.
There are a few footpaths accessible from the site or a 5 minutes drive drops you into Cloughton and you can get on the old railway line or join the Cleaveland Way and walk for miles.
There are small shops scattered around but the nearest big supermarket is Sainsburies on the A171 on the way into Whitby. Jackson's in Ruswarp (at the bottom of the hill) do excellent pies.
Food at the Falcon is first class and I recommend an evening meal there and a breakfast (you won't need to eat again until supper time).
Phone signal on the site is a bit random but there is wifi. The first 30 minutes are free and then it's £1 per day. Note that the free period is continuous once started and then the 24 hour wait for the next free period starts when the first one expires. This wasn't a problem for me as I only used it to check the weather and tides.
