 The campsite is split into three areas, main campsite and then two areas on the side of the river for motorhomes only. We chose one of the motorhome areas, a few hundred yards from the main site, down on the side of the river.
Thirty grass pitches all with ehu. This area had its own separate facilities block with toilets and showers which were fairly new and kept immaculately, also a washing machine and dryer. Again there is a separate chem disp and water fill / empty on each motorhome area as well as the one on the main campsite. No wifi other than on main campsite – where its charged at €5 for 5 hours.
The village of Tonning has an historic harbour area with several restaurants. There is a town square with a supermarket, bakers and a couple of cafes and shops less than 5 minutes’ walk from the campsite. There are plenty of off-road cycle paths criss crossing the area, we rode down to the North Sea to view the Eider Dam and also the small group of breeding Arctic Terns there.
The warden spoke good English and was very friendly and helpful. He is based in a large reception area that doubles as a good shop, fresh bakery and small restaurant.
We paid €15 per night with ehu, would recommend this site for the peaceful setting and the plenty of cycle and walking paths in the area plus the facilities were all excellent.
