 What can I say - we have been going to this site since 1973 when we discovered it, over 30 times at least, with tents, caravans and now a motorhome. We simply love it. It is a family owned site and open from mid May to end of Sept. Weather permitting. The Schneider family could not be more helpful and always on site. The site is immaculate, spotlessly clean and in the most glorious location. The facilities are very good but this is not a commercialised site. It is not adult only but there are no particular facilities for children but who needs them with so much to do around the area. The showers, washing up area are excellent with hot water round the clock. The owner will often do the laundry for you as the machine is in a locked area. It is just beautiful there and so, so quiet. There is a small bar on site and very basic supplies. I. E. Sugar, soup, long life milk etc. You can order Kaffee and Kuchen (home made) or an ice-cream. There is a cable car to the top of the Breitenberg in easy walking distance or you can walk up. There is a small train station taking you to Kempten (worth a visit) or Garmisch Partenkirchen via Austria. There is a bus service to lovely Füssen and beyond where the beautiful Neuschwanstein castle is situated. The Austrian border is less than a mile away and the day trips are endless. Pfronten is made up of 13 Pfrontens and Steinach is the last one before the border. Pfronten Reid is approx. 2 miles away and has some small supermarkets and other interesting shops as well as a train and bus service. Within walking distance of the camping site is a hotel for meals and plenty more on the route to Pfronten Reid. There is an outdoor pool approx. 3 miles away. You can hire bikes in Pfronten Reid and worth exploring the little lanes around the town if you feel fit enough. Don't just pass through, this area has so much to offer - get out and about in the Allgäu. Incidentally, the motorbike chase with Steve McQueen in the film 'The Great Escape' was filmed in the fields between Pfronten and Füssen and many scenes were shot in and around Füssen. A final note, the site is closed for the owners lunch between 1 and 3pm but they are available for check in or anything urgent. If you visit, please tell them that Pam and Bob from England recommended them. It was love at first sight/site for us!
