An excellent, well maintained site on the edges of the lovely old Charentoise town of Confolens.
We had a riverside pitch. Beautiful frontage and serene views of the river. Able to moor and use kayak directly from the pitch.
If you don't have your own 'boat' the campsite provides FREE use of sit on kayaks complete with paddles and bouyancy aids. Also bicycles! The river (Vienne) does have weirs at intervals.
All are navigable going downstream (chutes or mini rapids (easy enough). But going upriver, which is fine to paddle. (the current is only about 1. 5 knots).
Portaging over the weirs might be a challenge for some. The 'between weirs' stretch at the campsite runs from the Confolens weir down to the next, which is about one and a half kilometers. So you get about an hours worth of gentle paddling if you do the full to and from between the two. If you take your own boat upstream, you can go as far as you want.
Pitches range from very shaded, to partly so and completely unshaded.
The whole site is maintained on a daily basis and is immaculate. The owners are affable and madame's english is excellent.
The recently upgraded ablutions block is beautifully rendered with a variety of tiles. Different ones for floors/walls/loos/basins etc. Very attractive. There are a variety of basins (sit on top variety) and mirrors with led lighting, also a baby change/wash facility. Loos have seats but BYOP. Excellent washing up facilities.
There are a couple of 'food' trailers (burgers/fries/pizzas/drinks) with a few informally laid out tables and chairs. Though it's mostly a 'take-away-service'.
There is a sandy beach area within the campsite, for launching their kayaks, swimming, and lying about. Plenty of picnic tables/chairs etc. An excellent facility which renders the absence of a swimming pool completely irrelevant.
The town is a couple of hundred metres walk. There are a few eating places. The nearest a traditional english 'chippy', english run and heavily booked. So reserve a table or place an order early! The next nearest is the 'Asian' restaurant, doing a wider range than 'asian', and not the normal english 'chinese' with 500 varieties.
The menu is very good, but not extensive. It is also english owned and run. Neither of these are open 7 days a week. The hotel in the centre of town has a restaurant at the rear, overlooking the river, and does good food at reasonable prices.
The town itself is worth wandering around. The old bridge with Eric's Bar at the other end (makes it worth walking over!) is very attarctive, and now, pedestrian only. The upper part of the town with steep stairs and narrow alleys is fun to get lost in.
There is a Leclerc within 3 miles. Canoe/kayak hire in town, should you want to be taken elsewhere for a 'descent'.
There are plenty of towns/villages within easy reach. Good walking trails and cycling.
There's the little tourist train which departs from Confolens and does a pleasant 45 min each way run through pretty countryside, and also a Velorail (peddle your own rail mounted chariot!)
This is a lovely, peaceful and well looked after campsite.

There was nothing we disliked. Site was well maintained, peaceful and well set out.
The owners/ managers were delightful. Helpful and knowledgeable.
Nothing was too much trouble. We had a meal on site which was lovely and well priced.
We liked the easy walking distance in to confolens.
The camp facilities were excellent.
The toilets were kept very clean.
Nothing to complain about. 5 stars.

Loved this place on sight! Immaculately tended grounds, spacious scenic pitches overlooking the river Vienne.
The river looked fast flowing so we had to keep our water loving Labrador pegged down so he didn’t jump in!
Situated on the edge of town, easy walk to boulangerie and Lidl is 1 mile away.
Nice forest walk if you head out of town and path is obvious after you pass the last house.
Showers could do with being a bit hotter but did not detract from an absolutely beautiful site.
Definitely recommend.

Excellent site. Well maintained with very clean facilities.
Little extras added for example kayaks and bikes to hire for free.
Lovely pitches and we were on one with a river view - simply stunning.
Easy walk into Confolens which is a really old town.

An excellent site which we chose based on the reviews on here. Everything is beautifully kept with the owners constantly cleaning and gardening to maintain high standards. The riverside pitches are lovely and we enjoyed just sitting on our pitch watching birds. I did have a paddle and saw others swimming in the river.
We had a problem with our motorhome and the owners were really helpful, immediately phoning a garage who came out within half an hour and they checked the next day that they had come again with the part.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and made use of the food van having steak frites for 12. 50 one night. There is an excellent patisserie boulangerie in the town - best croissants and bread of our trip! Good little bar to have a drink in in town too. There is a really pleasant ambience on site and in the town.

Great site, next to the river and a short walk into Confolens. Very friendly and helpful owners.
Food van on site every evening and bread available every morning.
Note that you may need a very long electric cable as it can be quite a distance to the closest hook up point.
Would stay here again.

The previous reviews are correct, this is a lovely site. The pitches are of a good size, well delineated and flat.
The ehu is on pods of 6, so you may need an extension. Also the water points are dotted around, so may entail a walk.
The new shower block is extremely modern, but the attached toilets are on the outside adjacent to the washing up area.
All other aspects are near perfection:- free wifi over thw whole site, a little sandy beach for the River Vienne, free canoes and fishing rods and a baker arriving every day with loads of goodies.
The town is extremely pretty and there is a very large covered market hall for the bargains.
Loads of well marked cycle routes, of varying length and difficulty, start from the centre of the town.
All in all amazing value for money site

This is a superb site in, for us, a perfect location on the edge of Confolens a lovely old town to walk around. Situated on the river bank pitches vary in size but are all flat and a good size. The sanitary facilities are very good and clean(no toilet paper) but one block has toilets opening onto the dishwashing area. A bit too close possibly. The young owners are delightful and speak good English. Bird tables and insect houses are dotted around the site. We had 3 nights having planned 1. First 2 were high season and still only 21€. Very good value for the standard of site with good free wifi. At ACSI rates it is a steal. Do visit local villages St Germain and Esse by bike or vehicle. A nice circular route. Hope to return as it makes a great first stop from the ferry.

Recently purchased by the new owners, Dorothee and Benjamin who previously managed the site for 2 seasons. This is an immaculately kept site, on the banks of the Vienne. Free canoeing and fishing. Good children's play area. Bread delivered to the site 8. 30 everyday. Sanitaires recently refurbished. Lovely eco friendly couple. Hot food cooked on site twice a week. BBQs available to use, picnic area by the beach. 10 minute flat walk into the very historic town centre, With plenty of small shops, bars and eateries,
Can't praise this hidden gem enough! Only 13€ with electric and free wi-fi all over the site with ACSI. Come!

We are outnumbered at least 5/1 by campervans on this lovely riverbank site.
Very well maintained site with clean modern sanitary facilities. We are here in early June and remarkably busy for time of year, but I think that reflects the €13 per night ACSI prices and free wifi which is not the fastest, but at least seems to work all across the site.
Little to add to excellent previous reviews but there is a reasonably cycle friendly road passing the site which is on a recognised cycle way with signs to say it is a shared space, if motorists read them?
Friendly warden service. If you like easy access to shops, cafes, etc. You won't be disappointed with this site. I think canoë hire is free on site. The lovely River Vienne is accessible from the site banks but infants would need supervision. We'd come back here.
