After looking on the website and reading the reviews we were looking forward to our stay here with the aim of mountain biking in Hamsterley Forest.

In reality, we found it very disappointing.

The pitches were a good size and the outlook when sat outside was very nice.

The toilet block was never cleaned during our stay. There was no loo roll and none of the locks on the toilet doors worked.

We were given 1 shower token each on arrival and these are £1 each if you want to buy more. The token gives plenty of hot water and lasts a long time.

When we packed up, we asked one of the people who had a seasonal pitch where the grey water drain was. We were shown to a rainwater drain and told, “that’s where everyone drains it”.

The final amusing point was a sign on the touring site suggesting dog fouling would be prosecuted. Less than 50m from the sign at the bungalow next to the toilet block was a dog kennel surrounded by dog poo.

It is such a shame that these things let the site down as it has such potential.

Fantastic site, friendly owners, lovely people on the site. Only gripe was the poor tv signal, but tbh that made it better as we went for walks by the river and played together rather than sitting in the caravan watching the tele.

Cheap as chips and lovely location, will definitely be going again

5* what can I say. The owners billy was brilliant showed us all round park. Lots of information on arrival and am so happy I have chosen this site for me, the wife, twins age 14, girl 4. Very peaceful. Got a nice park and football pitch for lads to play and a huge woodland. It’s very safe as off all main roads and got gated entrance with cctv. There is a few seasonal pitches and that’s what I have now. Also for the cost compared to other sites it’s brilliant value and you can pay in instalments which helps us out. Within 8 miles is a big shopping centre Asda, Tesco, b&m bargains. My tv signal not the best but I noticed my neighbours had sky dishes so maybe that’s my next step. All pitches are super size I can get my 22foot caravan and Range Rover on hard standing and I have my own grass section at side (bonus). Am lucky to have found this site and going to be here many years. Hope this helps you all.

Just had a weeks stay here, excellent place! And for the price you can't go wrong (£100per week!) All pitches hard standing with electric hook up and your own tap so no walkin to the other end of the site with your containers. Friendly owner full of information and very helpful. Clean toilets and showers, has a shop on site but only really stocks sweets and leaflets, but saying that the site is situated in a village with plenty shops about and cash machine, and 10min drive along the road is a shopping centre with every shop you could think of. Very clean well kept site, children's play park clean and plenty of walks about. Also has a pub on site that's in middle of refurbishment, sells beer at the moment and will serve food on completion. Can't recommend this place enough we will definitely be visiting again!

Just stayed on this site for a few days, mixed review I'm afraid to say. Firstly we arrived and there was no sign to tell us where reception was, so we pulled over to what we thought was a car park, someone came over to tell us we needed to pull further up so we did, only to block the path of incoming traffic with nowhere to go, the car behind us used his barrier key to let us through only we were then told by someone else that tourers are not allowed in the static area. A simple solution to this would have been a few signs. Anyway finally found someone to book in with, who gave us a barrier key £10 deposit and told just to drive around and pick a pitch which we did. There seemed to be a lot of seasonal pitches but still plenty of others to choose from. Electric and water on pitch, there is also TV points but ours did not work at all, neither could we get any TV reception, even with our large ariel, but it did not bother us that much. I paid for wifi via PayPal and the signal was strong enough to stream. Not brilliant phone reception. The site looks like it's in the process of improvement, toilet and shower block was clean and accessed via a key.

There is a river which we were told was suitable for fishing but hubby said it was way too shallow to fish. So we just had a nice relaxing few days. Beautiful areas around and fantastic scenery.
