Mark and Jo's family-run Stablefell campsite was a very good location as a staff base and student refuge after their Gold D of E qualifying expedition in the Yorkshire Dales. Just 5 miles (20 minute drive) from the lovely town of Hawes, it was great to be able to return here after several hours out on the hills. On arrival, you will be greeted by goats and free-range chickens!

The pitches are large and flat with beautifully maintained grass.

The lovely toilet block is only 100 m even from the furthest pitches, and is kept spotlessly clean and tidy. Signs encourage users to spray and mop the showers after use, and spray sinks with anti-bacterial disinfectant after use. There are 2 freezers to keep food and cold blocks for free. There are also 2 large washing up sinks in a covered area outside, with bowls and all washing up accessories provided.

If you're lucky, you might visit when the pizza oven is switched on. The freshly-made pizzas are excellent, and good value at £10-11. Jo also sells coffee and croissants on weekend mornings.

There are fire pits on each pitch, and firewood and kindling can be purchased. There are also small BBQs & fuel for hire, which we made good use of on the final evening, providing food for our tired and footsore students.

The only minus is that there is no Internet signal, which is beyond their control. However, there is good 4G reception a 5 minute drive up the hill. Some people commented on the slight smell from the septic tank in the car park, but I hardly noticed it.

A huge thank you Jo for looking after us so well. If you weren't 250 miles from Keynsham, we'd definitely be back!

Stunning views from the campsite. Nicely spaced out pitches all with a fire pit to have a fire under the stars. Jo was always available if you needed anything, providing a really quick response to emails when booking and they have thought of most things including being able to buy wood, kindling or hire a bbq from them.

Felt safe with Covid. Pitches well spaced, sanitizer available at every gate you might touch, allocated pitch time’s for using the showers.

Be aware there is no phone signal which was a blessing for us to really switch off. Also there is no shop on site and nearest one is a 10-15 minute drive and shuts at 6pm so make sure you stock up on anything you need when you are out for the day.

We would absolutely return and had a lovely relaxing two days with the walks we wanted to do in a short drive from the site.
