 I felt this campsite deserved a mention on this site. We visited end of June/beginning of July. It is a family run site with some charm, but also a few little annoyances that slightly detract from its charm.
It is a site that is divided into 3 parts. 2 parts (flat surface) on the Verdon river side of the main Gorge du Verdon road and 1 part on a terraced hill opposite the main entrance to the campsite.
It has a small shop, that was not opened all the time when we were there, a nice restaurant with a bar area, again not open fully whilst we were there. It has a lovely kidney shaped swimming pool with wonderful views of the hills and mountains around and abutting the main road. Next to it was an adequate playground. It also has a small river 'beach', but generally, the river (very cold) was not deep enough for swimming in but nice for scrambling about it. My dog certainly enjoyed it!
The pitches are of a nice size. We paid extra for a larger pitch which was semi-shaded right on the river Verdon.
There are 2 shower blocks on the river side of the road where we were. One of the blocks they were busily refurbishing when we were first there. The wash blocks were kept clean but had no toilet seats. After a few days of this I couldn't cope with it any longer and we packed up and moved on. The wash block they were refurbishing, also had no toilet seats and still retained some of the turkish style hole in the ground type toilets. These ones also were not gender separated.
The areas around the pitches were a little overgrown and unkempt looking which I couldn't make up my mind if I liked or didn't like this. We were also plagued by flies when we were there, especially in the morning! I have stayed in other 3 star campsites and I do not feel this one quite reached standards seen previously.
The swimming pool area when we were there (early in the season) was lovely and as we had very hot weather, it was wonderful.
The area itself is gorgeous. Dramatic scenery with wonderful lakes around and the gorgeous town of Castellane about 7 kilometres away.
I have no idea if this campsite becomes more vibrant in the high season, but we enjoyed the peacefulness that was evident when we were there.
