Farrs Meadow is beautifully located, only a 20 minute stroll into Wimborne Minster and riverside walks on the doorstep.
The site itself is relatively narrow and long up a steep hill from the car parking area. We really loved having a car-free site. Transport with our kit up to the pitch was provided on arrival. On departure, it was very busy so we ended up carrying our gear.
Composting loos in the horse boxes were fine. Not at all smelly on the weekend we stayed. And we didn't have to queue despite it being a busy bank holiday weekend.
The weekend we stayed, it did feel as though the site was a bit too full to be able to provide the best experience. Particularly given the premium price-tag. Despite having booked a fire pit in advance, on arrival the owners didn't seem to be aware of this. We did get one in the end.
The horse box showers are a lovely idea and very generous spaces. However, they only worked 1 day out of the 3 we stayed.
Washing facilities are very basic, with just one big sink and cold water taps. It would be better if there was a separate sink for washing dishes to teeth brushing etc.

We stayed here for 3 nights over the August bank holiday weekend.
Parking is away from the camping field and your equipment is ferried up in a trailer attached to a quad bike. This was very efficient as the trailer is large and can accommodate all your belongings in one trip. The parking is in a grassy area that was already slightly muddy when we arrived. Despite attempts to add straw in order to make it less so, people were struggling to drive away on the Monday morning after a decent amount of rainfall. We have a 4x4 but the car was sliding about everywhere. Also, the route up from the carpark to the camping field is up a steep slope, which was pretty treacherous come Monday. These things do need to be addressed as they make access difficult.
Now on to the good stuff. The welcome we got from David and Luds was very friendly and they were most helpful, going from pitch to pitch to see if there was anything they could help with.
Campfires are allowed and encouraged here and you can rent firepits by the night (£5 for a small firepit and £10 per night for a large one at the time of writing). I thought the firepit hire was pretty expensive compared to other sites and the small pits are tiny so even though we were only 2 people we went for a large pit. The owner was almost apologetic about the price when we came to settle up on the final morning! Wood is not sold on site, but you are allowed to forage for it. There's no shortage, but finding branches that are dry and the right size can be a challenge. However, you can borrow a saw if you need one and other people were doing just that. We'd brought some logs with us as a backup and used a mix of logs and foraged wood. This is the best option if you want a large fire and are likely to get through lots of wood.
As it was a bank holiday, the pitches were packed in a bit tightly. The people next to us had been on the site for a few days before the Friday and seemed a bit unchuffed to come back from their day out to so many close neighbours. It's not such a problem if your neighbours are quiet, but we had quite a large group of a couple of families next to us and we could hear everything they were saying. It was a bit annoying as we don't really care to hear other people's career updates on our time off ;-).
The facilities were pretty good on the whole. There are a few long drop loos, which were clean, un-smelly and equipped with anti-bacterial handwash. The showers were mostly warm, although I think the calor gas ran out on the first morning as my shower turned freezing half way through! That's just one of those things though and they were fine the rest of the time. Dishwashing is done in a large communal sink with only cold water, so if you want hot you'll need to boil a kettle.
Off-site, you are only 5 mins drive from Wimborne, which is lovely and has good cafes and shops. It's definitely worth a walk around. There's also fantastic walking all over Dorset and I particularly recommend the area around the Purbeck coast. We also had lunch at The Pig on the Beach one afternoon, which is great.
I'd definitely recommend this site, especially if it's not a bank holiday. It's in a great and peaceful location, with very helpful owners and good basic facilities.
