We are just back from a lovely holiday at le Ranch.

The location for this site is great as its a very short walk to the beach. Great spot for walking, running or cycling and there are separate paths for all along the beach which is about 4km long.

The site is a small family run site. Its is spotlessly clean with the toilets / showers in the middle. The site is divided into rentals as you come in, pitches in the centre and then residential along the side and to the end. Hot water in the showers no matter what time of the day - perfect !

The pitches are divided mostly by large hedges or you might share with another camper.

I found the pitch quite tight for out very large tent but as I say our tent is very large - we were right up to the road side and luckily we had fabulous weather as we couldn't have put up the vestibule if the weather was bad.

Pitches are all flat and dry but you will need an extension for the electric which you can rent from reception. We have a very long cable but still needed a 15mtr extension.

There is wifi all over the site for a very small fee.

The pool area is great with the indoor pool a welcome relief on breezy days. Some slides in the bigger pool and a great kiddies pool.

There is a kids club but it is totally in French so we didn't use it.

We were the only non French family on site. We did struggle with the language but that's purely our fault so definitely lessons for next year.

This site is perfect for peace and quiet.

The lovely town of Pornic is about 5 minutes away, Planet Sauvage about 30 minutes away so a great touring location too.

Date of Visit: August 2015 Unit:  Tent

We stayed at Camping Le Ranch for 5 days at the end of August. It was supposed to be 7, but it got really windy and we couldn't even cook because the wind shield kept blowing away! But I guess that's the Atlantic for you – I’ve been blown away in Cornwall too and didn’t want to destroy the tent this time!

That is, however, the only bad thing I can say about our stay. The staff at Le Ranch were all very friendly and helpful. My experience of the Loire Atlantique is that it’s a very French area. This is the second year we’ve been to this area and on both occasions we were the only non French car at the campsite, at the supermarket and on the roads. As a result, expect to speak a bit of French here. Some staff speak very good English, some don’t.

The campsite is fairly small with one modern wash block, separated into male and female, with individual cubicles for wash basins, toilet paper and really, really clean. Showers are push button, with no temperature control but the heat was always spot-on, and the hooks and shelves for your stuff didn’t get wet – bonus! The whole site is well kept and clean, including the pool. The site is flat, the pitches square and with Euro electric hook up. Be prepared to need 40m of cable. They do offer adapters and cables to borrow. When I checked in I was given a really good summary of where everything was, opening times etc.

The main pool is mostly shallow with a deep bit by the waterfall and there’s a paddling pool and plunge pool for the waterslides. It’s not a huge pool complex and I imagine it would get pretty busy at the height of summer, but was fine at the end of August. There are a couple of playgrounds, one for over 8s, one for under 8s and both are reasonably entertaining. They also have a trampoline. There is a kids club, but we didn’t use it. The restaurant/bar is fairly basic. We had take-away pizza one night and it was good. They have bread available pretty much all day, with the all important morning pastries. The store is fairly basic, but the supermarket is only a short drive away. There are evening entertainments, but they were very low key and didn’t disturb us at all.

The beach is a 20 minute walk (with kids - I imagine much quicker without kids!) along quiet residential roads. It’s a nice stretch of beach, quite quiet at this point with some Grand Designs style houses overlooking it. About 15 minutes further along you get to shops and a small funfair.

In summary, this is a very well kept, friendly campsite in a fairly quiet area. It has all the facilities you need for a relaxing time with a young family, but if you’re after a really lively holiday then this is neither the area nor campsite for you.
