Pleasant site on the edge of a lovely smallish town, within very easy walking distance yet surprisingly quiet. The site adjoins a park area where there are tennis courts and some football fields, which can be used until 11pm but then fall silent.
The site has plenty of shade with some pitches being more open for sun than others. Pitches are largish with car staying on the pitch. Most have separation with hedges and are on grass with some areas laid for accepting motorhomes.
There are 2 separate areas, one mainly for caravans with a few motorhomes, the other reversed with more motorhomes than caravans. Both have their own toilet block with showers (€1). There are some "comfort pitches" ie serviced.
There is adequate water and chemical toilet facilities. Electric is 6 amps only. Entrance by barrier key with €20 deposit. If you have a dog then most people exercise them in the adjacent park. The town is accessible over a nearby canal bridge and is full of lovely independent shops and cafes.
You can walk to a nearby Aldi or take the car and travel about 1 mile to a Jumbo or Lidl supermarket. You can walk to the bus station about 800 metres away. The coast is about 20 minutes by car and ferries can be caught at either Holweld or Lauwersoog to the Wadden Sea islands for an interesting day out.
Bike routes from site are numerous and a map is able (free) from the site office, where the owners speak English. We found the bike routes and information to be first class ( as they are in most of the Netherlands).
We were able to use ACSI for our stay and at €16 plus tax a night plus €1. 95 for a comfort pitch to be excellent value.
Downsides? Grass pitches could become clogged if too much rain. Didn't see a motorhome waste point but there may be one on the M/Home section.
Showers were a bit old albeit clean and functional. Surprised that no recycling of plastics available. Not a great deal for children to do on site but there is a park adjacent.
We would certainly stop here again if in the area.

Site is easy to access, we have 7. 5m motorhome, off N361 at roundabout sign posted Dokkum Centrum, turn next left, at next roundabout and bear right to canal, follow along canal side, bear left at next turn on bend and continue to follow canal side to very end at bridge, site access is on right at sports fields, reception is on left just before barrier.
Site approx. 95 pitches spread over 2 separate fields, located in park/sports field area on the edge of old Dokkum town. Reception is usually manned but if not ring bell adjacent to door and owner will come. Owners speak good English and are very helpful, payment is made when you leave but a deposit of 20E is required for washroom keys. 4. 25 euro adult pp/night & 4. 75E for motorhome/caravan per night. Electricity charged 2. 50E /night. Tourist tax 1E pp/night. ASCI card accepted for discount. Credit cards are not taken. No extra charge for awnings or pets. Pitches allocated by owner at check in. Dokkum town info leaflet and map is supplied, other leaflets are available but are in Dutch mostly. British info leaflets can be obtained from tourist info at the museum in town.
All grass pitches with some having stone/sand tracks on pitch for vehicle standing, GB type electric hook-up points, 10Amp, take a long lead as these can be a distance from your pitch, shared water/grey waste drain between most pitches. However some pitches do not have these and a separate communal water/waste point is in each field. Some pitches have screened hedging between them and these are mostly in the main field.
There are two toilet blocks, one near site entrance and other is in 2nd field, both have modern individual male & female toilet areas, (toilet paper/ paper towels included) & separate individual shower cubicles in each, the showers have mixer taps & piping hot water which run for 4 mins cycle on a timer activated with key fob given at check in. 1E per cycle. No heating in toilets, were kept very clean during our stay. There are 2 dish washing sinks, loads of hot water, one at each toilet block. There is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer (detergent available from reception, 4 x 50E for washing machine and for dryer). 1 clothes washing sink with an electric spinner which is free of charge also in laundry. There is a motorhome service point with water & grey waste empty drain and CWP in 2nd field and 1 CWP in main field. Site has WiFi, which is free and extensive coverage over site, higher speed is extra 1. 50E per day. 3G mobile coverage is good for all UK operators using Dutch partner networks. There is not a dedicated dog walk area, but adjacent park area is next door and locals exercised their dogs here. Small children’s play area adjacent to main toilet block.
We were here in early October & the site was very quiet & only had a couple of Dutch & German tourers. A couple of unoccupied seasonal pitches scattered around the site. There are 2 camping pods in main field also. No noise at night from town/roads etc, which is a bonus for a good night’s sleep. Site was very wet due to heavy rain previously and we needed large thick plastic matting, supplied by owner, to keep our pitch useable and to support ground for our awning. We had to be careful to keep on stone/sand tracks onto pitch otherwise we would have been bogged down, but I guess this is a combination of late season and bad weather problem only and should not let you be put off to miss such a lovely old town. I would not hesitate to come back to this site.
Dokkum old town is very picturesque with 2 windmills, a museum which is also Tourist Info Centre, great walks/cycle paths through and around old town perimeter, has plenty of shops, butcher and great family bakery. There is a superb camping shop also for any essentials you may need. 1 supermarket named Jumbo which for some strange reason does not accept credit cards, banks with cash machines, restaurants, cafes & take aways, which are all 10mins walking distance from the site. Would recommend the café in middle of pedestrianized square for superb food and surroundings. Hotel on canal front near museum for drinks and more formal dining, more so in evenings when town is beautifully lit up.

Site is adjoining town sports park, and yatch haven for visiting boats. Easy to find, and access OK except for steep ramp which may warm a few clutches on exit. Site is well kept, grass cut, hedges maintained, toilets clean and enough for the site.
Dokkum is a beautiful typical Dutch town, surrounded and interwoven with canals. The site is 100yds from the town making everything accessible on foot or even more so on bikes. There any number of signed cycle tracks in the surrounding countryside, all flat of course, and offering distances from 20 miles round trip to as far as the enthusiast might want.
The town has all the shops and services you might want, and supermarket is 5 mins by bike. Guardians are on site for checkin anytime, speak English, of course, and are most helpful for any enquiries.
This is a quiet site, centre for sightseeing round Freyslan, and perfect for a week of peace and quiet.
