Although the site is beautifully located, it was not what we'd expected.
Many groups and noisy. Pitches very close together.
Great place for your outdoor activities but for a 'camping in nature' experience it's not what we'd hoped.
Although, we were there on a weekend, so weekdays might be more quiet.

Really relaxed feel to this site, large individually named pitches tucked away amongst the trees. There's a new toilet block, but the original 'dunny' is just fine! Staff friendly, and camp fires allowed!
Good walking in the Findhorn gorge, and the scones at Logie Steadings are excellent!

We stayed at this campsite last week, we found the staff very friendly and helpful. It was very reasonably priced and the camping spot was spacious and easy to pitch. Toilets, showers, sink and a cooking area were provided, including a variety of cookwear available which was a lovely touch.
Would definitely visit again.

Although there weren't many reviews of this site we decided to go for it over the long Easter weekend, and booked a pitch for our 5m bell tent. We were told that they'd been doing some work on the pitches but they had plenty of space for us. We were directed to a pitch amongst the trees, and although it was a bit of a squeeze we managed to get pitched - only about 10m from where we had parked. The ground was not particularly even (due to the trees and roots) but it was fine.
The new camping pitches have been dug level and grass seed sown but I'm not sure when they will be ready to use (only looked like they'd been done in the last couple of weeks) so possibly not until next year or later in the season.
The site itself is well laid out, pitches are well spaced and it's lovely and quiet with great walks along the River Findhorn from the site. It's also quite well sheltered from the wind thanks to the proximity of trees to the pitches.
The toilets were at the entrance to the site, a little way from some of the further pitches and despite being composting loos didn't smell at all and were kept fairly clean. There's a camp kitchen and the showers a little further in to the woods nearer the pitches and the kitchen had a gas stove, sink, and a large bench with tree stumps to sit on. The showers were quite 'invigorating' - particularly on a windy day as there's not much between you and the elements! The water flow was pretty good but not the hottest shower I've ever had, but it did the job.
This is very much a 'back to basics' campsite, and the lack of hookups, tarmac, lighting is exactly what we were after. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it was very relaxing for us and the staff were very friendly, prices were reasonable, and the location is superb. The bonus of being able to light campfires was great - we cooked on ours quite a lot.
There's no play area for children but there is miles of woodland to explore - so create a treasure hunt, do a nature trail, or go exploring with a torch after dark and there's no reason to not keep them entertained.
We even managed to get a reasonable 4G signal (on O2) whilst we were on the site, which was handy for planning walks and checking the weather.

What a lovely little site! This is camping in the woods with campfires, beautiful surroundings and peace and quiet.
However, despite the back to basics feel, the camper's needs have been addressed in so many little ways from the sheltered outdoor kitchen area with hot running water and the use of a twin burner gas stove to the provision of saws for cutting firewood and the use of barbecues if required.
There are several tent pitches scattered about in the woods as well as three bell tents and a shepherd's hut for hire. Cars are parked in the lane but it's only a short walk to the pitches and we borrowed a wheelbarrow to transport our stuff.
Showers are very clean and the water is warm enough, though not particularly hot. The compost toilets are quite sophisticated and are emptied regularly.
The staff are so friendly and enthusiastic about their job and take time to have a chat and make sure everything is okay. We paid £6 per person per night for tent camping which is tremendous value.
Campers are encouraged to forage for firewood in the nearby woods where there is plenty of dead wood lying about.
Ace Hideaways is just behind Ace Adventures which offers white water rafting and other outdoor activities. The River Findhorn is a short walk away. The staff told us about Dragon's Tooth Rock and Randolph's Leap, both nearby and well worth a visit. The whole area looks beautiful and we would have explored further if we had stayed longer. Just along the road is Logie Steading visitor centre, cafe and a collection of interesting small shops. The town of Forres is about 15 minutes drive away.
The three of us who camped at Ace couldn't find a single thing to dislike. However, be aware that this isn't everyone's style of camping. If you are looking for manicured pitches, electric hook up, shiny toilet blocks and hairdryers then this is not the place for you, but as far as we're concerned, it's absolute perfection!
