We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut here (having wanted to visit as campers for some time) and had a wonderful weekend.
The Shepherd's Hut itself has been beautifully finished with almost every little touch thought of. There is a comfortable double bed at one end and a sofa (that apparently converts into a bed) at the other. A small woodburner, a lovely round table and stools and a small stand for kettle and mugs complete the furnishings. There are lovely views up and down the valley and you have your own cookshed plus firepit and picnic table outside.
The site itself is in a stunning location which feels incredibly remote but in reality is not all that far from the M4. You can walk or bike (or run in our case!) from the site, either up into the hills or along the old railway line that runs back down the valley. You are in within easy reach of 2 MTB centres (Afan and Glyncorrwg) and miles of trails.
The site facilities are excellent - 3 bathrooms with shower, toilet and basin meaning you can take the whole family in and get sorted without much effort. There is endless hot water for the showers (free) and the washing up basin outside. Being eco-friendly the site has recycling facilities (a real bug-bear for us at other sites) and the Shepherd's Hut even has it's own solar panel for power!
Marc and Jude are incredibly friendly, want to make your experience the best it can possibly be and will not only share their knowledge of the local area but listen to feedback on improvements.
They do have problems with midges if it is wet (which they are open about) but we were lucky enough to visit during a dry spell and didn't see a single one! We did see and hear owls, bats and a host of other birdlife. The stars are also stunning from this site if you get a clear night.
All in all, if you love the countryside and a feeling of solitude, you can't go wrong with this lovely little site.

Willow springs is located at the very end of the Afan valley. Literally, the road stops here. A beautiful quiet spot. Seven spacious pitches (ours, right next to the waterfall!) plus a cosy looking shepherds hut. You can cycle straight from site onto some of the Afan trails and some excellent walking trails too. Three shower rooms (no timers!) with enough space for a family to go in together. Fire pits to hire (£5) big bags of wood also £5.
Mark is a fantastic host, willing to share his knowledge of the area. What he doesn't know, he will happily find out for you.
He heard about new bike tracks, and took the time to search and print what he found and brought it down to us. Fantastic site, fantastic views, fantastic host.

We found this little gem while looking for a remote site with plenty of walks. Willow Springs fitted the bill perfectly, it's remote and yet access isn't difficult and it is surrounded by beautiful forests.
As you drive up the track along the valley you soon start to feel you are driving into an exclusive isolated site. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the owners and given a tour of the facilities. We didn't need to use them ourselves however they seemed perfectly suited to the size of the site and there were a number of nice touches.
They have a number of additional services such as fire pits and wood, phone charging etc.
The pitches are a great blend of hard standing and grass so you know you can park up and not worry about getting stuck without it feeling like a tarmac car park like some seem to nowadays.
Our pitch was next to the waterfall, with a beautiful view however every pitch seems to enjoy a view of the forests and valley.
There are extensive paths through the forests all of which can be accessed directly from the end of the site. We are walkers rather than cyclists however it's clear there are plenty of routes for both walkers and cyclists.
The owners Marc & Jude are excellent proprietors and the friendly nature of the owners and guests alike really add to the overall experience and set the site apart from many others.
All in all this site is a gem and we will certainly be returning for more visits. Highly recommended.

Beautiful campsite with lovely scenery, clean facilities. A very warm welcome on arrival.
The owner did warn of midges at dusk and dawn, and sold smidge (£10) and midge head nets! (£5) which should have tipped me off- I was completely under prepared for the amount of midges. We have been to numerous sites and are fairly seasoned campers, midges are part nd parcel and we carry jungle spray, but this is something else. The dogs were biting themselves due to the volume of midges on them. Swallowing midges, in your ears, up your nose, swarms and swarms surrounding the tent.
Adding £30 to the weekend cost for midge head nets wasn't an option for me so we cut of stay short, particularly as we have young children who were made miserable by it.

Mightily impressed with the site. I visited for 2 nights with a 2-3 man tent.
I made contact via the website and received emails quickly to confirm places would be available. I was travelling alone with a new tent and was worried about the weather - not wanting to learn about a new tent in a downpour. Marc, the owner helped with weather advice and said that if I needed to come another time, that would be fine - very flexible and friendly.
The welcome was warm. Payment of fees in advance (CC Card checked). A tour of the facilities followed - Marc suggested an alternative flatter pitch.
The site was v quiet - the pitches great - they looked rocky, but I had not problems getting pegs in first time! There was rain during my stay and the pitch drained well.
This is how camping should be - a clean loo and nice shower, water, quiet space, a pitch with plenty of room and amazing scenery to boot.
The approach is along some narrow streets in a village - couple of hair-pin bends - but there were large caravans on the site, so clearly access is not a problem.
The owner had a bonfire on the Saturday night - and invited his customers to join him and his family. Lovely chat, very pleasant, nothing forced or uncomfortable about it. What a great weekend.
Oh yes - and duck eggs in the morning if you fancy then - leave your money by the eggs! This site treats you like a friend, as an adult, provides a wonderfully quiet area for everyone to enjoy.
