This site is on the outskirts of the pretty little tourist town of Saarburg, on the edge of woodland. Although the tourer pitches generally have some shade (very welcome when we visited), they are mostly not right under the trees like the residential pitches at the top of the site. The site is generally well-maintained, but with a rustic rather than a manicured look!

There are 3 pitch categories, basic (small), Category B (bigger) and Category K (serviced, but can still be quite small). If using the ACSI card, Category B and K pitches are available for a supplement. We paid extra for a category B pitch as we were using an awning with the caravan, and would do so again for the extra space.

After checking in we were able walk round and choose our pitch from those available (marked on a map) before we brought the caravan in - very sensible as the site roads are not the widest.

As on many sites in Germany the electricity use was metered (we were given a device to plug into the 16 amp hook-up so we could see what we were using) and anything over the 4kw per day ACSI allowance was paid for on leaving, charged at 60c per Kw. No problem in hot weather but something to be aware of if you needed to use the heating.

The dish-washing facilities, toilets and spacious showers were excellent, with plenty of hot water at all times, although the cleaning times could be a little inconvenient (as I recall, 8am-10am through the week and 10am-12pm at weekends and Bank Holidays). They were kept very clean though.

While we were there the site was busy, but never noisy, the predominant noise being birdsong, with most people seeming to stay for a few days or longer. There were mostly German and Dutch campers, some French and Belgian but only one other British unit during our stay, but people were friendly and happy to use their English, while tolerating my very basic German.

It was an easy 30 minute walk, using mainly traffic free paths or following the main road past the impressive-looking swimming complex, to the attractive town centre and riverside area, with lots of cafes, restaurants, ice-cream shops, old buildings and a waterfall! There are pleasant riverside walks and lots of cycle routes, and you can take a boat trip on the river Saar.

The hillsides are covered in vines which come down to the edge of the town itself, and there are footpaths through these vineyards leading to the Landal Warsberg country park above the town (where another, much larger holiday-park type site is located).

We opted to drive there, up the many hairpin bends (feeling glad we weren't towing the van!) but you can also take the chairlift as mentioned in earlier reviews. There are great views from the top, lots more walking and cycling routes and the summer toboggan run, with a cafe.

There are Aldi and Rewe supermarkets on a shopping park about 5 minutes drive or 15-20 minutes walk along a path by a little river, and a Lidl supermarket and a Shell filling station about 10 minutes drive on the other side of town on the way to the chairlift and country park.

Dog walking was very good with various walks direct from the site, some completely traffic-free.

We very much enjoyed our stay here and would happily return.

We used the motorhome area and it did the job perfectly.

Saarburg is an attractive town with lots of nice places to visit.

Good walking and cycling in the area.

Excellent pool in town.

A great place to visit!

We spent two nights here on a journey home through Germany. It's a lovely peaceful site in the countryside near Saarburg with a long walk to town, downhill but back UP. Good clean facilities; reasonable sized pitches, especially for caravans. Pony rides were available. Bar/restaurant on site. Bread to order.

An interesting area; tourist boats on the river ; Saarburg town quite picturesque if somewhat full of tourists (like us). There are small town shops, plenty of places to eat, a REWE supermarket and a road system that confused us! It's an attractive area and we'd be happy to return. For a site with a pool and more entertainment etc. Camping Landal Warsburg, above the town, is maybe what you'd prefer.
