Like many people during summer 2020 we were desperate to squeeze a holiday in following the Covid lockdown and restrictions. We love the location of St Ives Bay but the other campsites in Gwithian/Hayle were either full, restricting bookings or closed completely.
I contacted Prosper House campsite in mid Aug to see if they had availability after the Aug bank holiday but unfortunately they were also full. The owner contacted us a week or so later to let us know they'd had last minute cancellation so we managed to get a 4 night booking at the beginning of September. I doubt we'd have got this contact from a bigger busier campsite!
Location:
Gwithian sits on the edge of the towans (dunes) and the site is about a 15 min walk to the beach through the dunes. You actually leave the village and enter the dunes within a few minutes so effectively hit the beach then!
The 3 mile beach stretches from Hayle to Godrevy with many RNLI points along it during the main season. It really is a stunning beach and certainly my favourite in Cornwall.
The village is pretty small and quiet with a pub (the Red River Inn) which is right next door the campsite. The pub services 3 campsites in the village so can get quite busy.
Although there isn't a shop in the village both Churchtown and Gwithian Farm campsites have shops although both were not open due to Covid19 in Sep 2020.
Hayle is a 5 minute drive away and has plenty of shops and supermakets. St Ives is 20 min drive away and is full of toursity shops, gallery and eateries.
The site is a great base location to explore the whole of West Cornwall.
There are quite a few cafes close by including: the Rockpool, Sunset Surf, Godrevy Cafe, Hungry Horse Box and Jampot cafe
Site:
The campsite is small with about 20 pitches. The pitch sizes are really good with plenty of room for a large tent/van and gazebo if you have one. Despite the size there's still plenty of open space.
The owner who lives in the house next to the site is very helpful and friendly. They also run Gwithian Academy of Surf so you get discount if you want hire/lessons.
Facilities:
There are two individual toilets and two individual showers in wooden sheds. I saw on a previous review that they used to be portaloos but they are now flushable 'normal' toilets.
The showers are hot and powerful. Due to extra Covid measures (you are expected to spray all touch areas with the provided disinfectant after use) they seem to be kept cleaner than any campsite facilities I've even known and always smelt fresh! There is an outside washing up sink as well as a handwashing basin.
There is also a shed with a fridge/ freezers and electrical points for charging but due to Covid these were closed for this season. No wifi and the mobile signal is pretty weak for O2/Voda but the pub has wifi and is right next door to the site. There a few fire pits available too which I believe you can hire.
The facilities are certainly basic compared with a larger busier campsite but more than adequate and very well kept.
Overall a basic but well kept, lovely little campsite in a gem of a location!

We found this lovely little site by chance and I've just come on here to find contact details to book again for this year. We turned up needing somewhere for just one night, and ended up staying nearly a week as our kids loved it so much! The atmosphere is really friendly and the facilities are just the right side of basic. The loos were always clean, and the shower had plentiful hot water. The fridge to use was a nice touch and made our lives that bit easier. However, the real draw was the space. The field is not over crowded, so the kids had plenty of room to run around, and made friends with other children staying, but is small enough that you can see where kids are all the time, so safe even for slightly younger children. We're heading back this year on our annual pilgrimage home!

Really lovely campsite location, spacious and quiet (apart from the road past it could be bit noisy at times), great for families, lots of space for children to run around, and very unlike the other 2 opposite. Main criticism however is the facilities, whilst we love the no frills type of camping and have no problem with portaloos, these were not very appealing and smelt awful. I'm not sure if it was because we were at the end of the 5 weeks of opening but whatever was flushing down them was a disgusting smelling greeny/brown liquid and the smell of the toilets was noticeable at quite some distance. The water tap was also located immediately next to the toilets. The modern shower was a water heater in a shed, which was fine but it was cold on both days (broken on the first out of gas on 2nd). It should be noted there are also no sinks for washing, which led to washing up water, brushing teeth taking place along the hedge side where there is a stream running, possible contamination to stream? If the toilets and shower/washing facilities could be better maintained, and maybe better storage area for recycling etc, this could be a 5 star campsite for those who like the more rustic side of camping.

This was our first stay in our camper van and we arrived in the first week of this lovely little campsite opening!
The facilities were very clean (Showers, toilet, kitchen tent with fridge and power for charging devices). Nice tuoches like free shampoo and soap, etc!
The cuople were very friendly and helpful and the whole campsite is relaxed, quiet and friendly. I thoroughly recommend!
I also surf and it was v handy for Gwithian beach and the campsite owner also runs the surf shop and school on the local beach (Gwithian) v handy! I even picked up a v cheap 2nd Hand wetsuit from his shop!
