Please note, the owners of this site have advised that it no longer has any camping our touring pitches. It now has holiday lodges for hire only.

If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Second time we’ve been to Fairwood Lakes, a very pleasant quiet site. Lovely walks around the lakes and adjoining fields with good size pitches.

Plenty of off road walking available from the site and ideal for travelling out to nearby attractions.

Facilities are very good and cleaned regularly, good play areas for the children.

The site was very clean and tidy. The shower block was kept clean and there was plenty of hot water.

The site really is designed for young families with young children.

The play area was very noisy with kiddies screaming most of the day.

The lakes area was much more peaceful.

Good site, lovely grounds with great dog walking area, warm showers.

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions the caravan and site taps froze overnight. This issue was solved with warm water from the shower block. Due to time of year there were few sites to chose from.

This site provides lots of facilities that we did not require, such as lots of activities for children, fishermen, and those that do not wish to self cater. This is why I wrote that the site was overpriced for us.

If you required all the facilities then it was very good value.

A 2-night stay in late November was our first visit to this site so we can't comment on how much it has changed since previously trading as 'Cuckoo's Rest'. However, what is obvious is that a huge amount of money has been invested wisely. This site's main draws are its indoor and outdoor children's play facilities, which seem to be very popular with locals as well as visitors. And their Christmas Grotto, set up in a marquee throughout December is worth a mention. They gave us a preview and it's awesome.

The 20 pitches, all of which have electric hook-up and 7 of which have water, are of mixed gravel hardstanding and grass and are of a good size. (The fact that the water supply to our pitch froze in cold weather was not the owners' fault, and having to fill an Aquaroll from 2 pitches away was no hardship. ) And if you don't fancy staying in a caravan or tent, check out the lakeside log cabins which are available to hire for the week or part-week. I have no idea what they cost but they look lovely.

The town of Westbury and the village of Dilton Marsh, which includes a very nice pub, are within easy driving or cycling - though probably not walking - distance and Bath is about 15 miles away.

My only criticisms are that the advertised price of 'from £16. 50/night' on this site seems a bit misleading - we were charged £28/night for Saturday and Sunday nights in November(!) But mainly that the (currently temporary) toilet and shower facilities are not up to the same standard as the remainder of the site. I fairly hated that the showers operate using push buttons - the same as in the changing rooms of a swimming pool - and that the curtains are too short allowing water to drip onto the floor of the cubicle.

However, a new permanent toilet and shower block was under construction at the time of our visit, and provided that this rectifies these issues this site should be thoroughly deserving of a 10/10 rating. I'd love to be able to return in the future and award it one.
