Just come back from a 3 night break over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend at this lovely site. There are no toilets or showers and the owners do not plan to install any. There is fishing available, a tap, a CDP and bins. The field is surrounded by the River Wylye on three sides and is flat. No access to the river here. The grass around the edge is left long for the wildlife and there are trees for shelter if you want them. Or you can have day-long sunshine. It is in a valley with woodlands on either side. It is a field away from the A350 so not too near, but you can still hear it. The people are lovely and just leave you to it. Longleat Forest, Shearwater and Stourhead all close by but I would not recommend walking from the site because of the fast road. The village of Crockerton across the road hosts a pub and there’s another just up the main road at Longton Deverill, along with a garage/shop. There’s also a cider/vineyard place nearby. Apart from the forests, there are also many walks along the downs behind them. If you like quiet sites, this is ideal. I plan to visit there again soon.
