Site easy to find but as previously said needs some significant tlc. The grass was easily 6inches long which meant it never dried out even on our extremely hot midweek so wet shoes in and out of van.

We pitch up on a non electric pitch facing out to sea to get the awning on the sunny side. Quite sloping both ways so needed blocks. Most of the pitches had two way slopes and on some people had built fire pits.

The pitches with electric hook ups were slightly more level but all were quite neglected looking. However it was very quiet despite quite a number of vans and tents. No lights at night so very dark.

The showers and toilets were quite a bit away although very clean and protected by a code to prevent casual use.

The toilet waste disposal was a large tank with a screw off access on the top which meant lifting the caravan cassette up to empty it. A bit awkward to manage.

Access to the estate was included in the price. Interesting walks and good views. Play area for children which seemed popular, cafe and ice cream van. Information about the estate provided at intervals along the walks.

Very easy access to the main coast road meant that lots of places were available to visit. Plenty shops in Largs including supermarkets. Recommend ferry to Cumbrae for a days cycling/ walking.

We enjoyed our stay but used our own facilities mostly. Would use again.

The site is part of the Kelburn estate and country park. Staying on the campsite gives you access to the park.

There is a cafe, shop, horse riding, alpacas, and loads of walks. The castle itself is private.

The campsite is set apart from the rest of the complex. Great views over the coast towards Arran and Cumbrae. There are 9 pitches with electric on gravel, plenty more pitches on grass and hardstanding without electric.

Pitches are very sloping sideways, even with level blocks we struggled to not be at an angle. The grass was several inches long and needed cutting, the pitches looked a bit forlorn and weed strewn and could do with a bit of tlc. There is a fresh water tap, grey waste and a bin.

Loos and showers are a bit of a hike down the lane. Key coded so only campers can use. 3 loos and 1 shower in each - plenty of hot water. Washing up area outside the block, again hit water.

There are a couple of high steps up to the facilities, and door key code panel is set really high. Someone with mobility problems may struggle with access.

Overall it's a good site, we thought loos and showers too far away and as no lighting it's not great wandering down the lane in the dark. That aside grass needs cuttings and pitches tidying up to make it feel a bit more loved.

Words nearly fail me. Booked two nights hardstanding. Most hardstanding pitches were on such an angle that it was impossible to level MH even with full set of large blocks, so we could not use them. The ones more level were just mud with a handful of gravel thrown at them.

The track in was not made up and used by horses so again a mud bath.

The toilet and shower (only one shower) were too far from site. The chemical waste was a large container which meant an awkward lifting of toilet cassette. We never did find a waste water outlet. The grass was over 6 inches high.

There was no lighting on site.

The nearby moored boats gave a background hum and were lit up causing issues with local residents and site users.

Having toured Dumfries and Galloway and parts of Ayrshire this holiday we also found this to be our second most expensive stay.

After one night we left. We have wild camped on better sites!

A real hidden gem of a site. We booked here with the backdrop of Covid and travelling with two children, 5 & 3 - so assume it was quieter than normal (it did get busier on the weekend but still quiet)

The site itself is half hard standing half grass per pitch (tent on the grass hard standing for the car in our case)

Shower facilities were clean, power shower which was also really good! There is only one shower for men and one for women, but the site was quiet so no issue for us. Washing up facilities and electric hookup if needed (we didn't use it) fresh water tap and toilet elson point.

The views from the site were amazing overlooking Isle of Arran and Great Cwmbran.

The staff were really good with the kids- there was a riding centre so horses were seen regularly, our two enjoyed feeding them and the staff were happy to talk.

The castle and grounds are stunning. Miles of walks and great waterfalls not to mention the 'graffiti castle' - looked stunning!

There are play areas for the children, which they really enjoyed - outdoor wooden areas with climbs and slides, all included with the booking (normally £5 per visit) there was a 'Secret Garden' where you could visit for £3 p. P but we didn't do this. Also walled gardens and many things we didn't get chance to see in a week!

The cost was £140 for 7 nights, bit more than we usually pay but well worth it for all on offer in our opinion!

Would definitely recommend and will return.

Well sign posted both north and south of the A78 narrow road to site office but its one way traffic

Road to site uneven hard core

Site on slight slope but pitches near level

Electric hookups £7. 50 per night pitch £5 £5per person but that also allows you to get into park plenty good walks well sign posted and you are given a map of the area

Showers a bit away only one shower but it was kept very clean

Only one water tap and chemical toilet waste was a big tank

I think the site does need a bit of work done to improve overall

The country park is busy and children would enjoy the venue
