On the road from Melk at the first roundabout in Krems take the first exit into the coach/ boat cruise car park. Immediately take a hard left onto the campsite access road. The site is on the right after the car park with a football pitch on top.
Having read previous reviews we realised this was a relatively small site (about 60 pitches) so we e mailed the day before to be told they were not particularly busy but that reception was closed between 11am and 3pm.
We arrived at 10. 30 and were warmly greeted. A large pitch D11 had been reserved which would be big enough for our 7. 5m caravan, awning and car. It was a river view pitch and would cost an additional €3 a night. It turned out to be the biggest pitch on site above the river with an excellent view of Gottweig Abbey. Well worth an extra €3.
On the 3rd Thursday in May the site was about 30% full. On the Friday it was full by 5pm with weekenders from Vienna and Slovakia.
Pitches are on grass. You'll need an adapter for power. Wifi is free. We were furthest away from reception so the signal wasn't great but we used our booster and got speeds good enough to stream TV.
Despite being close to the road we didn't hear it just the occasional train and rumble from river traffic.
The sanitary facilities are dated but very very clean. No complaints.
The Hoffer supermarket is across the road. The river cruise boats are a five minute walk away. The centre of Krems is 10 minutes away and has a good selection of shops, a new museum and two churches worth seeing. Durnstein is a 4 mile bike ride away. If you haven't got your own bike you can rent a Nextbike by the hour.
The lady at the local tourist office was very helpful and gave us lots of information in English including a map of the extensive walking and cycling paths. One thing that has struck me is the amount of information in English that is available everywhere ranging from churches to ad hoc information boards.
We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

A superbly positioned site on the banks of the Danube within a short flat walking of the towns of Stein/Krems.
The heated facilities are good and kept clean. Water is piping hot. Free wifi flies near reception but on our pitch was not available though we were perhaps the furthest away from reception. However the view of the Danube and castle on the hill opposite more than compensated.
Also within a short flat walk is Aldi (Hofer) and the ferry station where boats run along the Danube. The train station is a mile away and a petrol station virtually on the campsite doorstep.
The towns of Krems and Stein are interesting. We took a ferry from Krems to Melk along the Wachau Valley and the trip lived up to its claim to be one of the most scenic journeys along the Danude. Cost just shy of £30pp and there were options to take the ferry up and public transport back.

To Find Site:- From the direction of Vienna take S5 road in Krems. Having passed the Hofer supermarket on the right at the next roundabout take the third exit into car park of the Sciffstation and bare sharp left onto minor road which is adjacent to main road you have just come along, and follow round to campsite.
Donaupark Camping Krems is a fairly small site with around sixty pitches. It is very popular and you either have to arrive fairly early or book ahead in order the guarantee a pitch, particularly during bank holiday weekends. It is situated directly on the banks of the Danube between Krems and Stein an der Donau. Given its semi urban setting coupled with a degree of river traffic some noise will be experience but it is much quieter at night.
All pitches are on grass and not overly generous in size. There is a separate area for tents. The average maximum length of unit is about eight metres, anything longer I would suggest discussing with the site. The riverside pitches are perhaps shorter than this. Electric points are centrally situated and have German two pin connectors and are rated at 6amps. The only water points are either at the toilet block or the motorhome service point and waste water only at the service point. Given the overall size of the site this should not pose a major issue.
The toilet facilities are of an older vintage but none less perfectly serviceable with seated toilets with paper provided. There are also dish washing and laundry facilities. Reception has limited opening hours and is closed between 10. 00am and 4. 00pm, however there is usually someone around if you arrive outside these times. Next to reception is a bar serving drinks/coffee/ice cream, bread can also be ordered.
There is site wide WiFi which is free but you have to have a code from reception. The site is in the ACSI discount scheme but by the time tourist and rubbish tax is added its usually another, €4 a night on top of the head line price.
The centre of Krems is about a kilometre and a half walk from the campsite and is well worth a visit, particularly the old town. There are lots of cycle routes, ask for a map from reception, including along the Danube.
From near the site there are river steamers visiting towns upstream. There is also a railway station in the town which could provide further scope for excursions. For food shopping there is a Hofer supermarket across the main road from the site.
