I said we'd return and we did. Not much has changed, including the Wi-Fi password.
The Bar du Donjon in town still serves a fine Mojito.
There's a little market in the square every morning with veg/fruit stall/ chap with cheeses and a fishmonger. Didn't try the restaurant but menus and prices look reasonable.
It's easy to assemble your own circular walks from the site if you buy the relevant IGN map and lots of people were whizzing around the area on electrically-assisted bikes so I assume the same goes for cyclists.
It's just a really nice bit of old-school rural France.
€11. 60/night for two adults, tent and car. No EHU
Basic but rather lovely municipal campsite. Loos etc are rather dated (even including some old school squat type) but impeccably clean and with abundant hot water.
There's a games room with table football and books which you're free to borrow. The room also contains a couple of fridges and a freezer for campers to use. The office has herbs planted outside with a little notice telling you to help yourself to them. There's plenty of shade available round the edges of the site and a more open area in the middle for those who want to catch as much sun as possible.
The site is about 150m from the centre of the town/village which has a nice bar and excellent baker and butcher/traiteur. Nearest supermarket is about 2km away. Angouleme is a 15 minute drive.
We will return as it suits us down to the ground, families with younger children would probably find it a bit lacking in facilities.
