This is our second stay at this lovely campsite. It a small campsite situated beside the Sorgue river which has it's source at Fontaine de Vaucluse which is a short drive away. Crystal clear water which is always 12 - 13 degrees so only the hardy swim in it. There is easy access to the banks and a tree shaded island, perfect to while away the day. We have a 7. 5m m/h and easily fit on a site which was partially shaded and was also partially grassed. Most of the sites have thick green hedges between. Two lovely pools which get a little crowded at days end. The lovely French owners are very helpful and have landscaped the entrance area beautifully. Although we haven't eaten here they do pizza and fries in the evenings. Thankfully no entertainment. It is a quiet campsite, although there are some pitches by a road. A great place for dogs as they can easily swim or paddle in the river. Reasonably close to antique shops (which are open mainly Saturdays and Sundays) in the lovely town L'Isle sur la Sorgue and of course all of the the Luberon.

This is a busy site in high season, but is very well run and organised so has a calm atmosphere. There is a small popular pool area, but no significant organised activities/entertainment, so maintaining the relatively quiet feel. Pitches are very small - we could just about squeeze in our 7. 2m outfit with porch awning, with the car overlapping the access road a bit. Sanitaires are ok, but a bit stretched in high season. Free Wifi worked well enough around reception.

The river from Fontaine de Vaucluse (a must-see) runs along the side of the site, with canoeing available. It is very cold though, so not ideal for swimming - it is also fast flowing. Whilst Vaucluse is very touristy, the neaby village of Lagnes is very much for locals - we liked the little bar in the square and were amazed at the local festival and talent show. A 'vide grenier' one Sunday was in the usual French style, but small-scale.

We did a day trip to Avignon, using the train from L'Isle sur la Sorgue, though there is a bus service from Lagnes and Vaucluse too. The old papal palace was interesting, but 'le Pont d'Avignon was a disppointment! We didn't bother paying the fee to walk on it to nowhere! We then took a local bus across the river to Chartreuse de Villeneuve lez Avignon, - a really pleasant visit - but we could also have visited Abbaye St Andre if we had had more time.

Another day out was to Gordes, a rather spectacular hill-side ancient village. In reality it fell a bit short of expectations, being a bit touristy, and better looking at from a distance rather than within.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Couteliere but felt a bit crowded-in, so left a day earlier than planned. No refund of our pre-paid fees though!
