A Back to nature site with charming hosts.
I decided on a one nighter at this site as it was a place I had been intending to visit for a while. The site has an upper and lower field, large pitches, some with hookups and lots of fire pits surrounded by large logs to sit on. In the upper field is a campers kitchen with range stove, sink, fridge and gas cooker. Next to that you will find the toilets and two showers. Yup, two showers but. The owners never take more than 30 units on site, even in the height of summer. This means the site is never crowded and everyone gets a fire and a shower. Many Irish sites pack them in at bank holidays. However I expect you would have to book early for here to guarantee a spot as it has become quite popular amongst those in the know.
Reception is not manned. You phone the house and are directed to your pitch. CCTV is there and the owners come round later and in the morning. In high season they are there all the time. You can buy peat for the fire (less sparks) and many pitches have a table. Water pipes are dotted round the site'
The ground seems well drained and I did not encounter any stones when pitching. I drove over the field to my pitch and the car did not get bogged down. This was after heavy rain. There are play facilities for children such as swings, sand pit and climbing frame. Also an area for kicking balls around. A few mobiles are for rent
The nearest town is about half an hours walk and there is a supermarket and, of course, pubs. Dublin is one hour away and the Wicklow mountains are on your doorstep here. On site there are nesting snipes, moorhen and a rather loud donkey is on a farm nearby.
If you are looking for an all frills, regimented site then this wont be for you. If you are looking for an almost wild camp, clean, basic facilities and an emphasis on conservation then this may be the site for you.
One night for a tent and one person without EHU was 15 Euro (10 for the tent and 5 per person) in 2018. This is very good value for Ireland.
