 An attractively laid out campsite on the edge of Europe’s largest Natural Reserve: The Doñana National Park.
A fifty fifty split between holiday cabins and generously sized camping plots, set under the idiosynchratic, tall, bushy topped, Doñana pine trees providing, mainly, shaded plots. Sandy soil with some pine needle cover makes for soft pegging out (no problem for the long, plastic, peggy-pegs). Each set of four pitches shares an EHU outlet and four point water supply.
A relaxed ambience, with a mixture of families of all ages and adults only.
Ablutions have English style toilets with seats and paper provided … the showers were cool, though, with the hot summer weather (August), this was welcome … I have no idea whether that is the norm throughout the year … or whether the temperature would be turned up if asked for. Each shower cubicle has a concertina type draw- curtain, which separates the shower from the section where you can hang clothes/towels etc (keeping them completely dry). Marble surrounded washing sinks complete the set up: overall ten year old ‘look’.
There is a reasonable restaurant/bar offering a range of entrees, meat and fish dishes and puddings …. The gazpacho is good and the chocolate ‘torta’ pudding is utterly gorgeous! (Don’t expect ‘cake’). The ‘supermarket’ is small with a sparse stock of essentials … certainly fine for preparing an emergency meal and drinks.
The nearby town of Hinojos (5 km) has a couple of small supermarkets, but Pilas (11 kms) has a large, well stocked supermarket, and plenty of other shops.
There is a standard, rectangular pool with grass surround and plenty of sun loungers … it’s a 25 metre pool, and an attractive larger, ‘designed’ pool with a rock wall, soft sand surround, thatched umbrella shades, plenty of sun-loungers.
There is a petanc area, football zone and other sports.
A large, central, paved area with trees and night lighting acts as a sort of plaza and links the facilities section.
Flat cycle paths are accessible from the campsite entrance and link up with the Doñana network. Horse riding is available locally as are horse drawn, open, carriages.
The staff are extremely friendly, informative and helpful. A couple speak adequate english.
Sevilla (30-40 mins) is a must see city … at least a day, and probably more.
Malaga airport (3 hours).
