We were helped by the hot weather - but - we did love this site

- dead quiet (unless you are unlucky with your neighbours!)

- fantastic views

- great walking

- plenty to do in the area

- nice low key hosting (met on arrival then left alone)

- lots of flat pitches if you wanted/needed that

We were actually camping with our daughter, her fiancé and 3 year old, and the site was perfect for us all. There is lots of room to run around, play games and relax, and our grandson was quite safe going between our tents and playing on the grass.

It is clean, spacious, quiet, tranquil and lovely people running it. As other people have said, it is exposed, but we pitched next to the tree line so had some shelter from the pretty much incessant wind- we came home tanned!

I would definitely recommend this site even with the long drive round to Peacehaven, because the views and the walk to the sea and town are so worth it. It’s a beautiful part of the world.

If cycling to this site, allow a lot more time than you think for the hills up from the A259 cycle path and also as the track from Peacehaven to the site has a horribly bad surface. Expect to get off and push and only ride this way if you have robust tyres. If you need to shop and pass the Tesco Express on the way up, shop immediately as you won't want to be cycling back down again!

The site is on top of a hill so has stunning views. It was wet and windy when I arrived, so I had to wait to the next morning for the full experience.

The shower and loo block was spotless and looked very new inside. Lots of hot water at the washing up sink (outside and uncovered) and in the loos, but not in the showers. There are warning signs saying the showers are faulty and luke warm. Well they were cold when I arrived desperate for a decent wash after 50 miles cycling. So needs an urgent fix. A shame as the two showers are big with lots of changing space.

Also to note as a solo tourer is that the site has no bins and you need to take your rubbish with you, so make sure you have a spare bag and space to put stuff.

Lots of space on the day I stayed (a Tuesday in school term time) so on arrival all I could hear was birds and the wind. That was very nice.

My booking was done online and I was too late for the 17:00 check in. So I can't give much of a customer service score as I didn't get to see anyone. Howeever, the loos were cleaned overnight so someone is taking care of things. There's no one actually based on the site.

I paid £22 for the pitch which covers up to 6 people. The night before I paid £13.25 for a camping and caravanning club site pitch as a solo over 60 member. It's therefore expensive if a solo traveller, so a lower value for money score from me. (If you were a group of six paying £22 for all of you you'd think it was fab!)

When I left the sky had cleared and the views were ones to savour whilst having breakfast.

To avoid the rough track back to Peacehaven I left via the village and then the road to Newhaven, which was a mistake as this C road has a 50 mph limit and was busy with fast cars. It was unpleasent cycling into Newhaven until I reached the Egrets Way cycle path at Piddinghoe for the last 2 miles into the port. (Once this cycle route is finished from Southease into Newhaven this will be a brilliant route. )

I was up at 07:00 and off site at 08:15 so if I'd been heading for the 10:15 Dieppe ferry check-in for 11:00 departure I would easily have made that. So a site which you can use for overnighting. (Note the site does not take large RVs or caravans, with good reason as the road through the village is too narrow and too steep. )

I have just returned from a couple of nights solo on this friendly campsite. What amazing views and a very welcome breeze in the heat of the day.

I enjoyed sitting under a tree with the sheep, reading and enjoying the peace.

As mentioned by others, the water pressure was low, but having a van, I managed without showering each day.

Although solo, you're not often alone on a campsite - there's always someone to chat with briefly if that's what you (and they) want!

Atop the South Downs this gently sloping site enjoys almost 360 degree panoramic views.

The generous pitches are aligned along a fence line so that campers can make the most of the stunning vistas.

The toilet block is at the upper end of the field and are adequate, although they suffer from having poor water pressure.

The owners are friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Beautiful views of sea and countryside and nice walks from the campsite. However it is very exposed and we only stayed one of the two nights we had booked due to high winds.

The toilets and shower facilities are very clean but water is minimal.

There are notices asking you not to wash up or shower between 7-9pm and 7-11am, exactly the times you would want to wash up or shower! Naturally everyone was giving it a go anyway but with varied success.

‘Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better. ’

Albert Einstein

How right he was and how right I was to choose this beautiful campsite and, looking deeply into nature doesn’t get much better than the South Downs Way and 360 degree views of tapestry landscapes and blue seascapes. Bliss! Locked down, locked up, anxious and in need of deep relaxation and release in this healing environment. Boris is advocating prescription bikes! He’s missing a trick here! He hasn’t visited Stud Farm campsite. Much better NHS prescription is a stay here.

Stud Farm campsite is located in Telscombe Village, Near Lewes in East Sussex, a small site of 15 large pitches for tents and small camper vans and 5 pitches for backpackers, both dog and family friendly. It happened to be quite windy during my stay, which was a great relief in 34 degree temperatures but I guess it’s advisable for tent campers to choose a sheltered spot on the site, of which there are many.

I happened to be reading a delightful little book during my stay, extolling the virtues of

‘ All you need is Less’, by Vicky Vrint. How appropriate! This is a no nonsense ‘ less is more’ kind of a site, wholesome, no frills simplicity which I absolutely love - no showers during Covid but meticulous toilets, cleaned at regular intervals throughout the day, outdoor washing up facility with boiling water, sometimes a little patience required when the water pressure is a little lower than one would like but I remind myself that I’m camping and in no hurry and ‘ less is more’ - less stress, more chill!

Rishi Sunak can forget his ‘ Eat out to help out’ initiative here as you can order a fresh farm delivery of breakfast hamper or BBQ hamper containing delicious organic home prepared Gloucester Old Spot sausages, organic bacon, fresh farm eggs and fresh bread and in the evening you can hire a fire pit, complete with firelighting kit, logs and giant marshmallows to toast well into the evening.

This is a place where you can certainly hear and experience the health benefits of the sound of silence, feel the stillness and appreciate the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The location is just perfect for serious walkers who want to embrace mile upon mile of wildness or just a 20 minute stroll towards the sea leads to Peacehaven, Saltdean and Rottingdean and a very frequent 24 hour bus service into Brighton.

‘But the most beautiful things in life are not things, they’re people, and places and memories and pictures. They’re feelings and moments and smiles and laughter ‘ and that is indeed what I have enjoyed in this uniquely beautiful campsite.

And as Pop Larkin would have said in Darling Buds of May, ‘ Just perfick’.

Thank you, Stud Farm, for everything you have provided and for reminding me of the real truth behind, ’ All you need is less’.
