Firstly, this was not my Choice of Campsite. Unlike previous holidays, where it is normally just myself and the wife, we took 2 Teenage children of our friends with us. As this was as much there holiday as it was ours, we let them choose the Campsite as I had chosen the campsite for the first week of our two week Holiday. The Children's main requirement was that it was to have a swimming pool.
We were all very happy with the site, and the longer we stayed, we grew to enjoy it even more.
We were in Embrun to watch the Tour de France which was passing through the town for a couple of days towards the end of stay, and in fact went past the road at the entrance of the site.
We stayed for 6 nights in all, On arrival we were very much aware that there may not be pitches available due to the cycling, but we needn't have worried. There are many other campsites in the Vicinity, and some nearer the town were fully booked - some were fully booked by Xmas, apparently)
The campsite is set in the valley surrounded by the Alps, over looking the Town of Embrun, it was a 45 Minute walking into town. The site had 2 Swimming pools, which the children spent a lot of time there, and whilst there was no Bar or restaurant, you could purchase a very limited range of products. SuperU was a 20 minute walk away, or 2 minute drive.
There was plenty of Other on site activities, including Table Foot ball, Table Tennis, Tennis courts and a Football/volley field available, as well as the almost mandatory Pentanque courts. Bike hire was available or could be arranged from site.
The Staff very very helpful and always polite. In the evenings, they had various traders come round, including Pizza Van, Market Stalls and someone Selling Crepes, all seemed to be good value. The Toilet and Shower Blocks were Clean, and being a larger man, I felt the shower cubicles were larger than normal, which was pleasantly appreciated.
The wife's main grumble was the site being so far out of town, however the walk was not a problem, and we did it several times, and it was a reasonably enjoyable and easy walk. Our other concern was the lack of on site Bar, however by not having it, we learnt to experience a different sort of camping, which we very much enjoyed, and we were quite disappointed to have to leave.
Pitches Sizes was good, but we were unable to get the car on the pitch once the guy ropes were out, but there was a car park available. This was not a problem for us, as we had a large tent (Vango Euphoria) and a Pop up tents for the Children.
Very much recommend this site, and definitely return to this site and the area.
