We stayed in a yurt here. They also have a teepee, gypsy caravan and hobbit house. The site is set out in an orchard with paths weaving between the trees to the individual yurts. There is a wash block with composting toilets and gas showers, which were lovely and hot. There is then a communal kitchen / cooking block with long tables to eat at, loads of cutlery, a proper cooker, fridge and freezer and a couple of washing up sinks. Just outside this cooking area is another covered seating area so you can have fresh air but also be covered from the rain. This is also next to a communal fire pit, which the owners light every night and a play area for kids. Further towards the house there is a goal post for a kick about.
That's all the general bits and pieces, now for what we loved about this site. First of all, the luxury - as a family we are used to 'proper' camping, so to have actual beds (and gorgeous beds at that- hand made by the owner), made up with lovely, clean, soft bedding felt like a real treat. And the log burning stove in the yurt that we lit each night to take the chill off made it super-cosy. Add in the night lights dotted about and it was magical. Secondly, the communal fire. We are used to our own little fire when camping and to be honest were a bit disappointed to discover that there was just one communal fire pit when we first arrived, but it turned out to be a highlight of our trip. It was lovely to gather with others each evening, compare days and share marshmallows. Even our teenage son said how the whole 'communal' aspect was his favourite part of the trip. The third thing that made this place special was the owners. The whole family was so welcoming, over various evenings they handed round home made cider, cup cakes made by their daughter, and homemade biscuits, while their sons lit the fire each evening. It was an amazing place, and we would love to go back.
