We stayed here for four nights August/Sept.

The main reason was as a base to do/see Perpignan and the 'Little Yellow Train'.

The site offers some 22 touring pitches plus cabines and long term rental sites.

The pitches are hedged, with tree cover. Variable sizes, but nothing really small. EHU throughout with water taps never far from your pitch.

The sanitaire block was split male/female. Though the baby changing unit was only in the female section: Liberated males may wish to complain! Though not ultra modern, all was clean, tidy and well maintained.

The site has a bar/restaurant (both sit in and 'take away'). As ever, pizzas topping the menu list, but other options (steak and chips) were available. The usual farinaceous fodder could be ordered for morning collection. The Restaurant was under a soft cover with walls to match, thus providing the ability to be completely open, or enclosed, depending on the prevailing weather.

There is a pool (which we didn't use) and a children's play area.

A volley ball and petanque area is also available.

The site offers no real views to the outside world and is functional rather that scenic.

It was very well placed for our planned tourist visits. Perpignan (18kms) is certainly worth a half day/day to stroll around. Particularly the old quarter.

The Little Yellow Train, which departs from Villefranche de Conflent (30 kms) is a wonderful rail trip. All day outing, about. It goes almost as far as Andorra. The final stop leaves you 200 metres from the Spanish border.

Of interest to rail buffs; the station at Latour de Carol is the only station in Europe, possibly in the world, to serve three different 'normal' railway lines operating with three different gauges*. The metre-gauge Train Jaune, the European standard gauge SNCF line to Toulouse, and the Spanish broad-gauge line to Barcelona.

You can choose whether to ride in one of the open air coaches (get there early to get a seat), or an enclosed carriage. We did one each way (it was sunny but coolish! The scenery is spectacular and the train is fun. Lots of short tunnels for the kids to scream their way through. You get about an hour and a half at the top station. There's a fantastic little cafe/restaurant, right beside the station. Very, very cheap food and drink. We had two huge/tender/tasty steaks.

If you do the full trip to the end of the line, it takes about 3 hours. There is no need to do this, as there are plenty of stops on the way. Check out any of the many websites by googling Little Yellow Train or Petit Train Jaune.

Villefranche de Conflent is a must visit. The unusual walls surrounding the entire village, are covered with roofs to protect the watch from missiles bombarded from the, higher, surrounding cliffs and mountain sides. We did this after the train trip. Nice way to end the day.

In Millas, the next village after Nefiach, going towards Perpignan, is a delightful little restaurant called La Carbassa Boja. On the way out/right hand side. Organic food and beautifully cooked. We loved it!
