Orio/Ara nestles in a steep ria valley; the town clings to the slopes, while the campsite seems to have been clawed back from the beach.
There’s a few hotels and cafes between the site and the sea. It’s well kept, with plenty of loos and showers. Reception was friendly, no problem taking ACSI.
A nice walk to the train station, though my brolly was blown inside out on the town bridge by the wind blowing up the valley.
Efficient train service takes you into San Sebastián/Donostia, with information boards in Euskera, castillian, English and French.
Clientele were an eclectic bunch, found myself next to a German couple in a VW camper, with whom I shared a nice bottle of Rioja at the beach bar.

Great site, extended our stay as liked it so much. Our pitch was hedged and spacious, but we needed our two-pin adapter for the electric point. Pool not open yet in late May, but we swam at the nearby beach most afternoons as the sea was much warmer than expected!
Friendly, helpful staff who came from their morning coffee break at the cafe to check us in - we were early off the ferry from UK and not sure if we were allowed in - no problem.
Facilities spotless, cleaned constantly. Good cycle path into town, good supermarkets plus fishmonger and greengrocers. Easy train ride 30 mins into San Sebastián, rather longer into Bilbao (over 2 hours).
Some road noise from the busy Autopista main route into Spain from France which crosses over the river here, a background hum - didn't bother us too much but noticeable. Good cafe, cheap food and drinks.
Would return here any time, great place to come to off the ferry.

Good reception in English, pitch suggested but could change if we wanted. Pitches are flat and grass with some shade but as with most places at the end of season were quite bear of grass in places.
Toilets and showers were plentiful and very clean. Swimming pool, children’s play area etc plus a small shop and bar plus BBQ area. Free WiFi.
From the site there is a sandy beach very close, cliff walks and 3/4mile walk to the main town and harbour where the fishing fleet moors. Good stop for ferries, 50mls to Bilboa and take ACSI discount card.
Will happily return.

If you want to go to a Spanish seaside town to chill, then this place is highly recommended. Almost (200m) on the beach, half a dozen good restaurants (including one on site) within a few 100 metres plus clifftop walks around. 10 - 15 mins walk to the town where there are numerous other restaurants, a good underground supermarket and a train station from where you can go to stunning San Sebastien.
Close to the motorway - take the exit marked 33 Orio Aia from the East but you have to drive through the town if coming from the West. The town of Zarautz 10km to the West is worth exploring, and the coastal drive from there on through Getaria to Deba is a good one. There is an Eroski Urbil hypermarket just off the motorway 13km to the East near Lasarte-Oria.
Pleasant enough site, the pitches are a little on the tight side though. Very busy given its great location. Adapter required for the EHU. Toilet blocks not the most modern but fine and clean. Decent shop and cafe near reception.
Swimming pool is big but cold. Staff helpful - they helped me mend my water pump when it was clear than noone nearby sold that make of pump.
One warning - everyone in Spain seems to BBQ fish on a Friday at the many on site outdoor BBQs, the smell can be potent.
We loved staying here, not only would we return but we intend to. I can think of nothing better than a stay here followed by the laid back El Molino de Cabuerniga.
