The site is on the edge of the very nice town of Straubing,
It is a municipal site and has all the amenities you would need for your stay.
Shower and toilet block are clean and well looked after, we originally wanted to stop for two nights but then used it for a base and stayed for 5 nights,
Straubing was very good for entertainment both during the day and night events as well,
Highly recommended by us both.

A municipal run campsite. Easily located and convenient for either a one night stop off the A3 autobahn or for a longer holiday. The site sits on an island created when a cut in the River Danube was made to the north to help with the larger barges that ply their trade along it. The original course runs to the west of the island and passes by the town of Straubing. It is not a large island and you can walk across the grassy plain to the town or follow the river path. It takes about 20 minutes from the site to the edge of town.
The site itself has all grass pitches and they are of a good size with up to 5 units being sited along a strip with a path separating you from the other side strip. Some strips only have enough room for 3 units and there is a large tent area at the bottom of the site. There is just 1 sanitary facility but it is of a high standard. Showers are free. There is also a laundry on site, a baby room and cooking facilities for those in tents (metered). Plenty of hot water available. There is plenty of shade and some strips that have more sun than others. Waste disposal for M/Homes will be difficult due to layout of emptying facility. There is not a great deal for children to do on site.
There is also a small restaurant and bar on site. Pre booking is not necessary and is definitely required for an annual beerfest that is held in Straubing each August. You will probably not be able to just turn up and find space when this is being held.
The office is technically closed between 12. 30 and 15. 00 but the current manager allows you to turn up and pitch and see him later. Despite being close to a main road and plenty of river traffic the noise level is acceptable.
There is an Aldi within 400 yards and other supermarkets within the town, which has plenty of shops and eating places. It's a nice place. The river is easily accessed and has decent cycle paths on both sides and the Bavarian Forest is not far away. Regensburg is also an easy drive away.
All in all an excellent site and one we have stopped at on numerous occasions.
