 Great campsite. Very spacious.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Good access to the river for a swim.

Showers and toilets are mixed and very dated but clean.

Lady in charge is very friendly.

Really good value for money.

There is electric hookup and water taps near all the pitches.

There is a bakers in walking distance.

Set on the banks of the River Cele and fifty metres from the small village of Brengues (Church, Mairie, some nice houses and one ‘hotel’ which is also the bar, restaurant and bakery), and just below a bridge across the river, is the Municipal Camping Brengues, nestling below a typical Cele river towering rock face.

The river below the bridge is punctuated by a small waterfall created by a barrage of large rocks across the width of the river … this creates a shallow wading/swimming area above it, and a series of pools below … all served by a pebbly beach leading onto a grassed area … very much a ‘municipal’ recreation area … with several children’s recreational structures, a volley ball pitch, and boules area.

This area also serves as a starting point for kayak/canoe hire with several length trips on offer to various ‘get out’ points downstream … there are possible launch points upstream as well. The river is fun with alternating calm stretches with plenty of wild life to spot, and sections of mini rapids and shoals … and the odd man made water chute to fly over a weir. The river is mainly shaded by an abundance of trees and various sections of sheer limestone ‘faces’ rearing up from the river banks.

Directly bordering this area is the campsite.

Some sixty odd pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

The pitches are generous in size and offer a range of exposures to the elements. A number of mature trees provide shade for many pitches … varying from all day shade, to every combination up to, and including … no cover at all.

Some dozen or so pitches border the river, giving direct access to bathing or boat launching (not all are suitable for boat launching).

The main building block offers all the campsite services: Washing up area, ablutions (unisex), which are thoroughly cleaned once a day, English style loos (bring your own paper) … Reception office, Bar, and open air kitchen.

The bar counter is fronted by a small terrace with four tables and eight chairs, plus a couple of bar stools … a basic range of bottled beer, presion, wine, some shorts, soft drinks, tea and coffee … and a superb range of ice creams as well as the usual manufactured lollies etc.

The kitchen serves basic meals … anything from a steak, to burgres, sausages, chicken, pizza, , , some good salads, and chips (which can be used as a take-away) … there are several tables and chairs under the trees next to the bar, which serve as the restaurant’s furniture.

There is no washing machine available on site (the main reason for awarding a 9 rather than a 10) … we used the very good launderette at Cajarc (8 km), and the Leclerc there for food shopping, and fuel.

Wifi is free, and most people have to use the area around the bar for reception … I found variable reception via my ibooster from about 100 metres away.

The young couple who run the site are very affable and easy going.

They do everything.

The whole atmosphere of the site is ‘slightly quirky’, very relaxed, quiet and with considerable charm … shabby chic.

There’s plenty to do and see in the area …

Cycling from the campsite is easy and flat along the river, in both directions … towards Figeac, or Cahors.

There are plenty of good walks, including some lovely paths half way up the cliff walls, affording spectacular views.

Must visits are:

The world famous Peche Merle caves with their 30, 000 year old drawings, pantings and hand prints … about 30 mins away …

The beautiful, if somewjhat touristy, Saint Cirque Lapopie.

And dozens of little villages, both in and around the Cele and Lot area.

It’s a lovely part of France.

It’s the only site we have ever stayed at for four weeks!

Two people, caravan, electricity, high season … under 15 euros a day.

Best pitch … IMHO: 42
