Easy access and sign posted from Kemmel crossroads. As we have a large twin axle caravan we reserved a pitch and found the allocated pitch, although large, was difficult to get on / off due to opposing slopes in the access road and pitch. We subsequently found out the two preferred pitches were either reserved for the season or were unavailable when we arrived.
We had booked a fully serviced pitch (water and 16 amp electricity) and found this to be large and flat – it was easily suitable for our caravan plus large porch awning and car with plenty of space still available for chairs, BBQ etc.
The site has free WiFi in the restaurant or outside by the adjacent reception where chairs are available. Many static and seasonal caravans – also very popular with German / Belgian and Dutch touring motorhomes / caravans. The site gives a 10% discount for ACSI card holders outside of high season.
There are also numerous clearly signed bike routes from the site where you can explore the area and visits to First World War museums, cemeteries are also looking into.
We stayed to see the Kattenstoet (Cat festival) held in Ypres (Leper) in May every 3 years. Definitely worth seeing and recommend reserving seating in the market square stand to get the best views of this event. Ypres is 15 minutes from the site which is worth seeing for the numerous historical buildings. A visit to the Menin Gate to see and hear the Last Post (8. 00 pm every day) is definitely worth seeing. Supermarkets (Lidl and Aldi) are also in Ypres.
We would recommend the campsite for single axle caravans and motorhomes – care and reservations for larger outfits such as twin axles is advisable.
