We booked this campsite because of the 2 outstanding reviews in this website however we feel a more accurate review is needed. This is in a lovely location far away from main roads with a beautiful view. However we had a few issues.
The main one was the toilet facilities. There is only one toilet and one shower, plus one portaloo and one portashower for the whole campsite. At one point there were easily in excess of 50 people on the site and this just wasn't enough. People were constantly queueing. Also the portaloo didn't seem to get cleaned as often as the static loo as there was poo all up the back of it for at least 3 days. In addition to this, the toilet block actually blew over during the storm we had while we were there which suggests it isn't very safe at all.
In addition there were several very large caravans with families with much older children than ours at one end of the site who allowed their children to run up and down the site playing and screaming until very late in the evening. These children were using the tents as places to hide, ducking under guy ropes, walking through the middle of our camp while we were eating. While I understand the owners of the site cannot control who camps there, I feel perhaps some information on camp etiquette would be helpful for those families using the site.
Other families were playing loud music and being very loud until quite late in the evening and although the site has a policy of quiet by 10pm and silent by 11pm it wasn't enforced.
The site is also advertised as having children's play facilities but this turned out to be various broken ride on and pull along toys. There was also a badminton net and swing ball but no good for my younger children. There is also some sort of flytipping / scrapyard site behind a barn near the toilets which the older children were getting planks of wood from to make dens etc which again is definitely not safe for my youngest (2yr old).
I feel a lot needs to be done to improve the site for younger children.
