I’ve seen some negative reviews re the toilets. Most are earth toilets and 2 chemical. If you want a 5 star manicured campsite this isn’t for you!

This campsite is Wonderful. Views Spectacular.

It’s basic but that’s it’s beauty. If you don’t like the toilets, then bring your own, there is no light pollution, and I didn’t experience noice. Just peace

Will definitely come back here again

A very good site in a fab location. Love the reception shed to grab the odd hot chocolate.

Lovely coastal walk to the lighthouse.

Go see Portland castle and the D-Day Museum!

The 8 Kings pub is a short walk away from camp which did yummy all you can eat Thai food on Thursday night.

Fav pub was a bit further away at 30mins - The George Inn - had the steak, very good!

Would visit again!

I enquired using the form on here and got a very quick response from the owner advising they had space, the price and how to book. I swiftly booked as the site sounded perfect for my needs.

Very easy to find when I arrived and I called the number on arrival, however the owner was not about so I followed the signs to the camping field and what a great site. A huge field, very flat with lots of fire pits dotted around. I was the only person on site so had full pick of the site, I chose a spot near the perimeter with views out to sea and of the lighthouse.

The site has three washing up sinks and fresh water taps along with three composting toilets that were kept very clean and very secure, just bring your own loo roll. There are showers too, 5 I think, and they are token operated which cost £1 for 3 minutes. They were plenty hot enough and the shower head was a big rainfall type and was really nice and three minutes was more than enough. They are in a shed type building, but more than adequate and very rustic.

I met the owner on the second day when I decided to stay another night, she was extremely friendly and stopped everything to have a chat and made me feel very welcome. They have a daytime cafe type thing and at night you can grab a drink, there was a firepit surrounded by lots of seating in this area. Looked really cool and a great communal area for campers.

She did advise they are hoping to put on small gigs throughout summer with local bands playing, sounds brilliant and I may have to revisit for one of them.

The site is ideally located for walking around the island, down to the lighthouse and cliff edges. I walked around the island and this was about 9.5 miles and took in some lovely sites on the way, not only the amazing views over Chesil Beach and beyond, but Weymouth and out to Lulworth Cove etc.

On my walk I discovered the Tout Quarry Nature Reserve and Sculpture Park, which was a nice surprise and some wonderful things to see and explore. I would recommend anyone to walk over there and take a look, especially children, they will love finding the sculptures.

The Lobster Pot is a short walk, next to the lighthouse and offers lovely fresh crab and lobster sandwiches, along with burgers, chips, etc. If you want a pub there is the Pulpit Inn, this does food and offers a good range of drinks.

On the way on to the island you pass many shops, Tesco, Lidl etc, so make sure you stock up before you arrive, then you won't need to use the car / camper to head out for bits and instead just enjoy the endless views of the sea and surrounding land.

The site is surrounded by farmland and there are horses to entertain you, plenty of birds and wildlife and so much space for children to play, so who needs a playground.

I would highly recommend this site to anyone and it is definitely on my return list and at £12 per night per person, plus £1 for a shower, this site is ideal for me and is so relaxed. Chill with a firepit, enjoy the views, the sun rises and sunsets.

Thank you Sweet Hill, I will be back.

Second time We’ve stayed at this site, and it is lovely. Simple - facilities are just compost loos and a tap - but the views to the sea and lighthouses are fantastic.

We stayed over the Easter bank holiday weekend. There were only a couple of tents/vans when we arrived, but by Saturday night it had really filled up - a bit busier than I’d have liked, as our neighbours on both sides were closer than I’d have chosen.

We heard every word our neighbours to one side said, and it felt like their stereo was practically in our tent at one point for several hours. However after dark the campsite owner did ask people to turn their music off, which was mostly obeyed.

The first time I visited this site, October last year, it was lovely and peaceful, and I would definitely visit again, but probably not over a busy bank holiday weekend.

The skylarks in the field next to us were a joy to hear and see, and there are some lovely walks close by.

This site has a great location with wonderful sea views and could be a superb site if the owners spent a little time cleaning the sole dishwashing sink (no hot water) and keeping the toilets clean and tidy.

We were unsure how the composting toilets function hygienically but were unable to use our on-board toilet as there is no chemical toilet emptying facility.

Dogs were being exercised off lead.

What a top site. Compost toilets for the first time.

All I could hear where goats horses seagulls and the wind - what could be better.

Woke up at 2. 30 and was greeted with the most awesome stargazing experience.

Love the sites friendly cute bulldog that wanders around.

Just great and will return

If you like it slick go elsewhere, if you’re alive go here
