Lovely site. Nicely spaced out pitches, nice and quiet, friendly.
Decent facilities but take wet wipes in case there’s no hot water running.
Will be staying again in the future.

A two night visit to this site, and this time I brought a push-bike. It's a great way to explore the area - the ride along the coast path to Tilbury Fort is excellent, and it's a really good way to take in the Bata estate. It also makes it a trivial journey to the Ship or the Co-Op, and a bit further, the good butcher at Stanford Le Hope.
This time the site was full, although mostly quieter. There were no logs, but rather dear sawn firewood, like garden Jenga blocks. Good enough to cook over, though you could only retain a good heat for about 20 mins. Co-Op does charcoal.
The ground had cracked quite a bit after a dry-ish summer, so I did have to reposition my pegs from time to time, but on the whole it held well.
It's a really good, fun site for a short stay, and great for a basic week-ender from my home in South London - handy for testing new kit, or just chilling by the campfire. You only have to pay the membership once a year, so repeat visits are good value. Will certainly be back.

Not much to add to Adam's excellent review here. It's a lovely site for a weekender and the area is full of interest. Tilbury Fort is an hour's walk up the Thames path and well worth a visit.
Much of East Tilbury itself is the old Bata shoe factory and associated housing etc and a modernist masterpiece - worth reading a bit about it before you get here.
It's a surprisingly easy site to get on with. The facilities are very effective, although I took a while to get used to the composting loos; the ground is excellent and it's flat as a pancake.
There's a useful Co-op in East Tilbury and some fast food options as well as the Ship Inn if you don't fancy cooking.
The firewood on site is stored in the open, so if it's been wet you'll need two bags of logs to develop a good fire, and you'll need an axe or a sturdy knife to chop yourself some kindling.
It all made for a very relaxing stay and a delightful evening by the firepit.
Will definitely return.

My wife and I stayed two nights at this fab little site. It's a classic eco type site based around recycling and eco facilities such as composting toilets. We spent a peaceful afternoon on site listening to the many birds and fealing very peaceful.
There is a strict no loud music rule which everyone on the site obeyed. Sadly there was a party at a house near by with DJ until 1am on our first night, not the site owner's fault, just bad luck it was someone's birthday. So you cannot guarantee it will be quiet as there are people living, driving and working in the surrounding area.
The site is off the local road to East Tilbury village. There are two gates with code locks on the 1/4mile track to where the campsite is. You will be sent the lock codes by text message and they are changed every week. This part of Essex has major problems with fly tipping, so the gates are as much to stop that as well as site security. The houses in the village are right by the entrance gate, so I suspect there is also a need to deter people from using the site as a short cut to the river path.
At the Thames river path side there is a deer height fence and locked gate with another code to undo it. The site is not staffed but we did see a man on a quad cart go round to check all the loos.
At the end of the entrance lane is a large gravel space which is for out of hours car parking and for campervans when wet. This area also has the showers (which do not have timer buttons, hurrah!), basins, single washing up sink, supplies of wood for the fire pits, cold water taps (x 2) and recyling bins. The wood comes in huge bundles, which you need a car or barrow to carry, so we were not able to take advantage of this. Payment is by honesty QR code.
On to the site proper, there is a gravel road along the south side with pitches marked as mown circles in the long grass to the north. Paths linking the grass circles lead you to the 5 pairs of composting toilets, well spaced out and clear of any campers. These are made from recyled wood. Do read the instructions for use. Boys can make use of a separate urinal with a view or are invited to pee in the bushes! There is a football pitch with small goals for kids well away from any tents and ample space for dog walking (there is a strict and vital. Dogs always on lead rule, as the long grass hides nesting birds) or you can go out onto the Thameside path.
Each circular pitch can take 2 tents for the standard fee, which did make our little tent look a bit small. Each pitch has a picnic bench and a firepit. Our firepit looked like a recyled lorry wheel.
As the site is down at river level the ground gets damp and drivers are discouraged from driving onto pitches if not dry. There is also a no noise and driving onto site rule from 10pm to 7am (Sadly someone decided to leave at 5am on our second day, which was a shame. They clearly tried to be quiet but a car driving even slowly does make a noise. )
The Thames is hidden from view by the flood barrier along the top of the riverside dyke. Once you are up on the top of this you have a view down the Thames towards Canvey Island dominated by the large cranes of the London Gateway container terminal (this is about 3 miles down river). You will see plenty of ships coming and going. This provides a walking route eastish to the local nature reserve with marsh to delight bird watchers and west to Coalhouse Fort (1860), which doesn't appear to be open, but you can walk around it and read the history boads. The cafe at the Fort is open 10-4 each day for coffee/tea, cakes, light meals and has indoor and outdoor seating. There is a children's play area.
The Ship pub is 10mins walk from the site. Make sure you book for Saturday dinner as they were full when we tried. We had an early Sunday dinner at 4. 30pm on Sunday (last bookings at 4. 30) and the food is good. Sensible value for money portions and nice local staff. The walk into the village is a long a narrow pavement, but the road is used for residents parking so traffic is slow. You can get to Coalhouse Fort along this road, so you can do a circular walk, handy if you got tempted by chocolate tart at the Ship and need to walk it off.
Heading north it's a 20min walk to the modern bit of East Tilbury which has fish and chips, a kebab shop, pharmacy and a medium sized Co-Op with bean to cup coffee machine. There is a wide pavement along this bit of the road which is needed as the 40mph limit is clearly exceeded by some drivers.
At the north end of new East Tilbury is the local station with trains every 30 mins to Chafford Hundred (Lakeside shopping centre), central London at Fenchurch St or east to Southend-on-Sea. This is 1. 5miles from the campsite, so a half hour walk. So you could camp and visit London very easily.
Scores:
8/10 for location as the site is very nice, but you have to allow for noise from around the site intruding on the quiet. Ships sounding horns at night for example.
9/10 for facilities simply because it's a bit of a walk to the showers and that might matter for some people.
8/10 for customer service based on being texted and quick responses to questions, but this can never be as good as a person actually on site to meet and greet.
9/10 for kids as the ones on site seemed to be having a great time with plenty of space to run around. The football pitch is well located so as to not disturb other campers.
Would we stay again? Yes we would.
An important note for people on cycles:
We travelled by tandem bicycle on the Thameslink train to Gravesend and then crossed on the foot ferry to Tilbury, a 5 minutes ride. Thameslink allow tandems on their trains, vital as my wife is sight disabled so cannot ride her own bike. The ferry only runs Monday to Saturday (NOT Sunday or Bank Holidays) and has some hour gaps in the schedule.
We'd then expected to be able to follow the coast path, in theory part of National Route 13 to Coalharbour Fort and the campsite, as marked on the OS map. However, where the coast path reaches the local sewage works half a mile west of the ferry you are expected to climb up and over the sea wall on steep steps (no ramp, just a difficult to reach bike channel) and then follow a muddy path along the outside of the wall which floods at high tide as we discovered when we tried to follow it and had to beat a hasty retreat. If you are carrying full camping kit, don't follow this path, use the local roads.
We came home from East Tilbury station on C2C which you are not supposed to do with a tandem, but no one stopped us, as the ferry was not running on the Bank Holiday Monday.
