Castlewigg site was extremely clean and tidy. A small site with a decent dog walking area.
Owners/wardens are very friendly and have a good knowledge of whats on/happening in the surrounding area, with a description and directions of each village/town. There is no park for kids to play in but that isn't a problem as there are plenty of places to visit.
No on site shop but that's not a problem either as the closest village is only a couple of minutes away via the car.
The toilets/shower are so snug that you have to find a way of pulling your trousers up and down without bumping your head on the door. The washing up area is nicely tucked away but could do with a roof as you could get rather wet if it decided to rain.
All in all will go back again as this site was more than adequate for me and my partner.

Great site. Large flat camping field, no other campers the night we stayed so lots of room to pitch our tent.
Site is in a scenic location a short drive from the picturesque Isle of Whithorn, with its traditional harbour, make sure you check it out.
Friendly welcome from owner who left us to pitch our tent and let us pay before we left the next morning.
Small toilet block and laundry on site, both of which were well maintained and clean.

Never in sixteen years of camping have we come across a site like Castlewigg, it has taken us seventeen campsites to find the perfect site for us and Castlewigg is it.
Peaceful, beautifully kept and friendly, if you want to get away from the Ratrace totally then this is the place for you. All this would not be possible without the owners of the site Kath and Ted who were wonderful hosts and their redoudtable wardens Chick and Carol, they all made us so welcome that we did not want to leave.
A ninety second walk from the tent to the Castlewigg Lodge Restaurant and Bar for good food and drink and surrounded by the wonderful countryside of the Machars, you are only a short drive from the coast or the Forest parks of Dumfries and Galloway. All make for a really special holiday.
Needless to say it may have been our first visit but it won't be our last, next year here we come.

July 2005 A diamond in the crown of Galloway. A small, immaculate, friendly and peaceful site. If you're looking for the ideal site to get away from the pressures and stresses of life then Castlewigg is the perfect choice. This has been our second time at Castlewigg and it certainly won't be last.
