So pleased to have found this lovely Campra aire.
We paid £15 night inc EHU, 24hr access to a beautiful clean toilet & shower & the best pizza I've ever tasted.
Lovely friendly staff
Quite simply a brilliant stopover.

We travelled nearly 1000 miles and two boat journeys to get here and it was worth it.
What a fantastic little aire!
For £15 (2024), you get a hard standing pitch with hookup and excellent Wi-Fi.
You’ve got all the facilities you’d expect of a good stop over - spotless loo and shower, water, chemical loo disposal, grey waste, etc, but that’s just the cake - I haven’t described the icing yet… 59 Degrees also serves the best and most Northerly wood-fired pizza in the UK and coffee that you will want to drink by the bucket load. Really really good coffee and food.
Now no cake with icing is complete without the cherry on top, and this place has it… dessert! I recommend the Biscoff Sundae but others might disagree.

This has to be our favourite aire and favourite location of all time! We received a warm welcome from Jon, who provided the lowdown on the site and gave us a printed map of all there is to see and do on Sanday, and confirmed that we could order the all important pizzas as takeaway on the day we were leaving.
We stayed on one of the hardstanding pitches with beautiful views, made even more beautiful by the warm and sunny weather while we were there. Excellent grey and black waste disposal, and a scrupulously clean shower room (our teenagers said it was the best campsite shower during our tour of Orkney).
Sanday has so much to offer, our 2 night stay was nowhere near long enough. We had fantastic walks around Roos Loch directly from the site and at White Mill Bay and Cata Sands. Sanday Heritage Centre was really interesting, with the restored croft giving a great insight into island life. Highly recommend a hike from here to Quoyness chambered cairn - the beach at adjacent Stywick Bay is also worth stopping off for.
We didn't bring any food with us - Sinclair General Stores and the Sanday community shop have pretty much anything you could want (including Westray Bakery goods). Both shops were well priced. We had an excellent take away from the Belsair Hotel after a five o'clock swim in the sea at Backaskaill Bay. On the day we left, pizzas were made in time for our ferry back to Kirkwall - they were every bit as good as we expected.
We all agreed we want to return, but for longer next time! A special campsite in a special location.

Fabulous 2 night stay on Sanday, weather kind - breezy but sunny.
Enjoyed eating in cafe both evenings (open 11am-8pm, closed mon/tues) - pizzas superb and enjoyed the milkshakes and amalfi sundae too - mmmmm. Busy with locals too on sat/sun night when we were eating there, always a good sign.
No drinks licence means you can bring your own beer/wine, island Sinclair stores has large selection wine available, alongside a wide range of other goods - very impressed at choice here, so no need to stock up before arriving on Sanday.
Aire facilities are excellent, 5 parking spots (EHU) in front of cafe with views over fields to sea. Foyer of cafe open 24hrs to access 1 modern spotless toilet/shower room. Waste disposal and water fill point available for small charge if not staying overnight.
Hosts very welcoming, highly recommend the island and 59deg North as base.

John has built a great little motorhome site here. As a motorhome owner himself he clearly knows what is important.
The 5 hardstanding pitches are easily accessed, flat, quiet and well positioned for views over his wildflower meadow.
The toilet and shower are the best we have ever come across on a campsite.
John was friendly and welcoming and also runs the island pizzeria and the pizzas and coffee are fabulous.
