It has been an unusually wet winter and they did give us a 20% discount in advance because the paddock was wet, but they didn't warn us quite how bad it was going to be! It was very very waterlogged, making the walk when carrying stuff between where you park the car and the pitch (the driest patch we could find!) seem a long way.

The trollies provided to help lug stuff sank a lot in places. I think they're not used to dealing with such wet conditions, and could have done more to mitigate, in terms of putting down lots more wood chip and/or plastic matting in high use areas such as near the loos/wash up point, which was very muddy. We could tell someone's dog had been in our tent when we returned back in the evening as there were muddy paw prints inside the tent!

The 3 loos were nice and kept clean, but 1 door didn't shut/lock, and one was locked shut while we were there as it didn't flush properly, leaving only 1 to use. Although this wasn't a big problem as there was only 6 people camping on the Sat night, the rest of the time we had the place to ourselves.

One of the 2 showers was also out of action, again not a big problem as the site was thankfully quiet, but made us feel the site had a few teething problems they need to resolve. The shower was warm, but definitely not hot, and as the showers are quite open with lovely views, they were more refreshing than expected! There were no hooks away from the water to keep your clothes/towel dry.

The wash up point was useful, but would be even better if covered. There was a useful covered area in an old stable block, which you could sit in & had a hand sink in.

If you can manage the hill coming back it is walkable into Canterbury, which suited us, and was peaceful, with an amazing dawn chorus, and even heard a woodpecker.

Overall a cheap, basic site, in a good location, just shame drainage so bad, and a few things to resolve before the main camping season.

A charming, small, 'back to basics' site in a peaceful location between Canterbury and the N Kent coast of Whitstable and Herne Bay.

The site has a few bell tents available for hire, and otherwise 'pitch where you like' space for about 15 tents. The ground is level, roughly mown and seemed well drained and not stony, I didn't need rock pegs.

Plenty of shelter round the edges from thick bramble hedges and trees, with small clumps of trees on and around the site. Lovely stands of flowers.

There is a communal fire pit on the centre of the site, as well as fires off the ground allowed at your pitch. The communal fire was great for families and a friendly atmosphere.

There are delightful 'dens' around the site, with hammocks, swing chairs, and a stargazing platform.

The showers are in a converted stable block, good hot water, and plenty of space, but no lockable doors, just curtains and a sign to indicate 'engaged'.

The toilets are compost - very well maintained, but be prepared for half doors and gauzy curtains to maintain your privacy! In practice this was all fine. One washing up sink, with hot water. No freezer, no charging points, no EHU. No bins - waste must be taken home.

Cars are only allowed to the pitch for unloading and pack up - I like a car free site and freedom from door slamming and evening headlights etc. However if the weather has been very wet cars are not allowed at all, the entrance would be very wet and impassable as it is close to a marshy area.

The owner is willing to help lug your stuff if the site is closed to cars. Other sites provide barrows, it will be interesting to see how this policy develops as Fleets Paddock has only just opened this year.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead at all times. The owner did check this.

The owner was very friendly, making rounds morning and evening to check that all was OK, and doing a good job of keeping everything clean and tidy.

Logs are available - very good quality non-smoking logs at £4 a bag, which is much cheaper than some sites! The house on the lane next to the site sells fresh eggs.

There is a very well stocked Costcutter convenience store / small supermarket in Blean, a few minutes down the road, selling charcoal, disposable BBQs, licensed, full range of food items.

The site is very close to Canterbury, and 15 minutes from Whitstable / Tankerton / Herne Bay. The site is also on notable cycle trails and amongst the families there were campers travelling by bike.

A nice quiet site - everyone observed the 10pm quiet time.

Thoroughly enjoyed my break at this friendly, peaceful, back to basics site.
