 Situated in a very nice small town that is, as suggested by the name, on the banks of the river Lay.
Easy access is down a small road off the main street. The site office at the entrance was closed when we arrived at 1. 30pm but a sign directed us to the adjacent riverside cafe/water sports centre and the 'guardian' came and opened up for us. She could not have been more helpful and told us to select our pitch.
Pitches are large and flat, on grass, and divided by waist high hedges. All have EHU. The site has plenty of trees providing shade if needed.
There is a large facilities block on a raised area (some steps and a ramp). Facilities are a bit dated but very clean and well maintained. They include disabled, washing up and laundry facilities (washing machine and dryer at extra charge).
Adjacent to the site there are sports grounds, a outdoor swimming pool, pétanque and crazy golf. Just outside the site, through the entrance and car park to the right (Base Nautic) there is an open air terrace in a small riverside garden with tables, chairs and hammocks and a cafe bar selling good snacks, some hot food and drinks. In the same place canoes, kayaks and pedalos can be hired for use on the river. It was a charming place to spend a warm afternoon.
The town itself has shops including a boulangeie and a patisserie, a couple of bars, fast food/pizza shops and a good restaurant. On the road out to the east of the town there is a small Intermarche supermarket.
We loved this uncomplicated little site and the town and will certainly return is in the area.
