I've already left one review praising this place, and we came back for more as we hadn't really explored the area.

This time we took in Culzean castle which is worth a full day out, and we also did the riverside walk to the pub at Failford for lunch. Both the pub and the walk were amazing.

It looks like this site will be closed for 2024 due to building work on the land, but will definitely go back as soon as it is open again.

This is a site I don't want to be used by anyone else as it's a real gem, however, the owners deserve a lot of credit.

Ok let's kick off with this site's online interface: excellent, easy to use, and really sells this site well. It allows you to check availability instead of ringing up or e-mailing the owner, and it is a positive selling point. The gallery and other info online add to the attraction.

The site is spacious, the area occupied by the five lovely pitches is maybe only 20% of the total area, the rest is mown grass lawns with a firepit and log seating area, a substantial orchard that you are free to roam and sit in, plenty of trees and hedges and some areas of unmown grass too. Views of Arran, gorgeous sunsets, nothing to listen to but lambs and cockerels in the distance. This is a very peaceful site, you will get no road traffic noise.

You will get a little aerial traffic noise as you are not too far off Prestwick airport flight path, but I treated this as an added bonus, especially as there is a good slice of RAF, RCAF and USAF traffic to gongoozle at.

Site facilities - the converted horsebox offers a decent loo and shower and sink set up. The brown waste point is easy to use. Recycling bins are there too. There is nothing missing here. Pitches and access are well gravelled, ours needed a wheel wedge and a couple of blocks under one steady but the others looked snooker table level. The fully serviced pitch works well, the grey waste point is just where it should be, and is low enough that it drains superbly.

There are more things to do here in a one hour drive radius than you could do in a week. We enjoyed the maritime museum in Irvine, but we have several places on our tick list for a return stay.

The owners provide free hook up but now charge per unit if you exceed 12 units a day. We use electric a lot and. Used about 60 to 70% of our ration. Ok this was summer time, so no heating, minimal lighting, but I applaud this approach.

Another selling point - we'd expect to pay £36 upwards for this sort of fully serviced pitch on CAMC and C&CC sites. We paid a lot less, a lot lot less. It makes paying for any extra electric more than bearable.

There's a very good butcher's a short walk up the lane, and even a garden centre/nursery virtually just round the corner if your caravan or camper sports plants.

Finally - to the owners. We missed the sign that said stop here and phone this number. You were good enough to drive up to us and gives the welcome pack and a quick show round, and were so pleasant and happy. That meant a lot to us after a testing drive, so thank you once again.

Beautiful Adults Only CL and lovely, friendly owners. Generous pitches, with a fantastic layout that means you are not overlooking (or overlooked by) your neighbours.

Immaculate grounds, and if you're lucky enough to visit (which we were) at the time of year when the Orchard is groaning with delicious Heritage varieties of apples, I recommend tasting a few 😊

Water, EHU and drainage on each pitch. Quirky little converted horsebox with a toilet and shower. Stunning views, the sunsets were incredible and very little light pollution so on a clear night the stars were a joy to behold.

A few miles drive from endless beaches at Ayr. On lead dog walking is great either on or off site, which is fab for us but you might need to drive or take a longer walk to find the River Ayr if you want an off lead option.

Dumfries House is definitely worth a visit, and if you fancy a day trip, a drive to Largs, catching the Ferry to Millport, is a must.

Gutted to cut our week short due to the impending high winds/rain, but the 5 nights we enjoyed were spectacular.

Highly recommend Orchard House and hope to return.
