 A beautiful location about a hundred yards from Pendeen Watch lighthouse on the south west coast path, this campsite opened during the pandemic and has just been certificated by the C&CC so it can offer a longer season.
It's very much no frills currently, although the delightful owners are investing in it. The compost loos and outside showers were in storage for the winter whilst I stayed (the site officially opens in April), so I was given run of the facilities in one of the cottages - thanks Natasha!
Pendeen itself is about a mile away up quiet lanes and is quite lively. There's an excellent boozer (the North Inn), a useful Spar and the amazing Maria Chica Brazilian tapas restaurant. I believe there's an efficient bus route through the village, but I was there doing a little push-bike tour so didn't investigate.
The camping ground itself is well kept without being over-jessied. There are stones and it's an exposed location so rock pegs are likely a must. The whole Penwih peninsula is a dark skies reserve so the stars really pop at night and there's a huge amount of interest in the area with its mining and prehistoric heritage best reached on foot or bicycle, as well as the more "grockel-friendly" Cornish delights you can get to by car.
It was a great though brief stay in a backpacking tent with no EHU, but I still got nine-and-a-half hours sleep straight through. Lovely.
