Le Paquis is more of a transient site for the numerous people cycling & driving ‘The Moselle Way’ rather than a standard touring site - and therefore there is a lot of 8 > 9am activity in the facilities block, which is totally inadequate for the amount of people using it at that time …. -
& talking of the facilities block, this is now our seventh site on our French tour, & the block here is by far & away the worst I have encountered so far …. - it is cramped, the cubicles are the smallest I have ever used, the gents urinals were sealed off for the entire duration of our five night stay, there are no separate wash basin cubicles, there is no soap provided in the hand wash basins,
The water pressure is so poor that if two toilets are flushed simultaneously the showers stop working, and the general cleanliness of the facilities block, including the pot washing area, leaves a lot to be desired ….
There is no washing machine, just some large sinks upstairs, but if people are unaware of these, it leads to most cyclists washing their underwear in the pot wash sinks ….
On the plus side, the reception staff are friendly and there is a small ‘burger bar’ on site which opens between 6. 30 & 9. 30 of an evening ….
Although this site is advertised as being on the banks of the Moselle - don’t expect any river views - as it is obscured by trees ….
There are no provisions shops in the two closest villages - the nearest for supplies is at Jouy-aux-Arches, 4 miles away via the cycle route ….
Best way to access Metz via public transport, is by train from Noveant-sur-Moselle - a 30 min walk or 10 min cycle ride along the cycle path ….
If you are planning on staying for a few days, I would only recommend this site if you do not have any alternative ….
