Situated on the River Orb in the Herault some 50kms north-west of Beziers.

A pretty, un-touristy area with pleasant small towns/villages to visit … good walking, good cycling (including a Voie Verte 3 kms from campsite), and a river with plenty of kayak/ canoe hire points, as well as offering launching, or arrival, with your own craft; usually means either someone dropping you off upstream (paddle back to campsite), or collect you further downstream. Plenty of small rapids, plus a couple of Class II (possibly III after rain) …

The campsite is split into three areas … immediately on entry there are 16 pitches suited to motorhomes … hedged for privacy … then two main areas: one has pitches of various sizes unusually separated by boulders and rocks; the other a more normally green separated set up. Trees in most places providing shade, but there are some unshaded pitches. Many pitches without grass when we were there (end of July)

A gate at the bottom end of the site leads to a big sandy beach on the river bank at a large slow moving ‘pool’ … ideal for swimming and splashing about … safe for all.

Ablutions are modern and well maintained (own loo paper required, no seats, just ceramic).

One area designated for Women, one for Men.

Washing up and laundry sinks a plenty. Washing machine operated by a jeton purchased at Reception for 5 Euros.

Campsite occupants were mainly French … we were the only UK set up (suited us fine).

Very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere … quite full, so, if you want to avoid the least attractive area (first (above)), it may be a good idea to book ahead.

The star turn of the campsite is the Bar/Restaurant set up. Spacious wooden framework with roofing or tree cover … tasteful décor, and furnished with a variety of old tables and chairs (all in excellent condition) in the main area … a secondary area for drinking or meals overflow in a slightly less appealing covered ‘wooden decking’ area with plastic chairs and tables.

The staff at the restaurant offer a wonderful service and the menu is Pizzas and Burgers (as you’d expect), but also a range of local dishes … the cooking and presentation is very good. We have never experienced this level of service/food at a municipal campsite … in fact, it’s close to the best set up we have used in any campsite over many years! AND … very good value!

Nearby, small towns/villages worth visiting include Roquebrun (several wine producers offering tasting etc. ), Olargues and St Martin de l’Arcon.

Free WiFi is available around the Reception area, tables and chairs set-up for this.

And the damage? 21 Euros per day in High Season.

This may well be the best municipal site we have ever camped on.
