A most beautifully kept site with very pleasant and helpful wardens. The play area is lovely and there is also a very pleasant elevated BBQ area. The toilet block is clean and warm, with decent showers and a proper hairdryer in the ladies. You are given an access code for entry to it. The warden was really considerate - noting that I wasn't walking too well on arrival he told me that I would of course be welcome to use the disabled facility if that was helpful.
Now to the slightly more negative aspects. The signposted access route is up a pretty steep hill through a residential area so some care is needed. Once you're in the site you have to drive up a steep (tarmac) road into the touring area - I think the touring area has moved further up the hill with more statics being added which would explain why the toilet block is down the hill in the 3rd row of statics. We had the choice of pitch 1 or 2 which are immediately on the right as you turn into the touring area. The rest of the pitches are at the top of a further steep hardcore road and we saw one outfit struggling to get up it, as they couldn't get traction on the surface. They succeeded in the end by taking a run at it.
Neither pitch 1 nor 2 was level - they were on a diagonal slope making levelling awkward. Given that these are new and serviced pitches (drain/water/electric), this is a shame. Also neither pitch was long enough (I think the upper level ones have a bit more space). The rule is that both van and awning have to be on the hardstanding (hardcore stones) and once we'd done that it wasn't possible to get the car clear of the roadway. It would be possible to extend at the pitches back towards the service posts another few feet and that would resolve this problem. It would also have meant our water hose would have reached the tap!
There are also notices all round warning of a £50 fine for driving on the grass. Had we not had a motor mover I am not sure that we could have got the van onto its pitch without driving across grass because the roadway is pretty narrow.
On our last morning the warden came and asked if we had finished with the gate key remote, as he was going out - he refunded it then but said we could stay as long as we liked - no rush to leave. That was nice. However when we started packing up (and taking our time as it was a lovely day) we found ourselves being hassled by the groundsman who drove his very noisy motor mower round and round us, clearly itching to get and mow our pitch.
Although there are some negative points, all in all it is a lovely site that I would go back to. I might add a photo in due course, but sadly we had a an accident on the way home, which flipped the caravan and it's a write off. It was only our second trip with it, so it is a very sore point just now.

We had intended to stay at Hexham Racecourse, but the wind was blowing really hard and the site is very exposed and no hard-standing. Having passed Causey Hill decided to try our luck there for one night on our way to Scotland.
We were so glad we did as it was sheltered from the wind and the new touring area was immaculate. Each pitch was large, slightly sloping, hard standing (chocks needed) with electric hook-up, water and waste water disposal on each pitch. The chemical toilet disposal was at the toiler block, which was immaculate. All this and only £20 per night. (Only £3 more than the Racecourse).
The site was laid out really well and looked very pretty. I believe there was a BBQ and seating area, play area, ponds and woodland walks, but we didn't stay long enough to check these out. We had a lovely, peaceful afternoon and a good nights sleep.
It was a hike to Hexham, about 1 1/2 miles so we didn't go, but it would be downhill all the way and I believe there is a taxi service which would cost about £5 to bring you back up. This is a shame, I wish it was nearer Hexham.

There are new managers, Kath and Brian, at this site and we found it to be great. The facilities were spotless (well done Brian). The pitches had individual electric and waste water and water facilities, so you only had to walk a couple of yards. The chemical toilet is at the toilet block.
The racecourse is only a couple of minutes away by car and you can walk it in about 5-10 minutes (but not with our 3 year old).
We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone. The playpark and field for playing ball games were good for our kids.
A good base for exploring the surrounding area and Hexham is nice. The Indian restaurant opposite the bus station on the high street was lovely and worth a visit.

What a fab site. We stumbbled upon this site having refused to stay at Hexham racecourse, and luckily for us there was a couple of pitches left. Possibly if we had read the reviews we wouldn't have stayed, but thankfully we didn't.
The warden/owner? was so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The site at the moment has 22 pitches all hardstanding, although some are on a slight slope so bring chocking blocks!
There is also a new touring area being built, which looks nearly ready, all with superpitches.
The toilets are lovely and clean, with fab showers. There is also a laundry and pot wash. There is a small park for the little ones. Free wi-fi is also available.
The site is also a large static site but they are all privately owned. In terms of noise which is mentioned in other posts, well there was none.
A lovely site which I can only highly recommend, and we will be back many times in the future.

A wonderfully located site overlooking the town although it is too far to walk if you have anything to carry. Hexham is a lovely little market town which every convenience, good restaurants, nice shopping centre and a bit of history.
The pitches are small and sloping, some extremely so. It is difficult to pitch an awning because of the small sloping pitches and also because the site was waterlogged. The toilet block is old, basic, cold and dirty, an experience not to be repeated. And there is also the problem of unruly children which doesn't seem to have been rectified by the management. We won't be returning which is a pity as it could be a nice site.

On arrival we were given a very friendly welcome. However at nightfall it became very noisy. The warden should have checked at the time of 11pm to ensure park rules were followed. The 2 surrounding tents became very loud and it was hard to get the children off to sleep and this was past 11pm. Also the people opposite had music playing well into the small hours. The place itself is very hilly but there are some good flat areas to pitch. As for the rest of the site it was very quiet and there were some smashing statics to look at and there was pride taken in the whole grounds surrounding the site. It's a pity that certain people don't have a little more deocrum when it comes to fellow campers. I would visit again but only if noise rules were enforced and the tents weren't so close together.

Stayed here one night - which frankly was enough! Very noisy children running back and forth - saw one toddler without nappy defecating outside his tent - cant blame the kids though! Pitches very steep and you need a long extension cable to reach the hookup. Views are nice, toilets ok.

This was our first visit to the site and on first impressions it boded very well. Nicely maintained, fantastic views and very quiet. The toilet block could do with some updating but the showers were hot and free. A nice wooded area with park kept our menagerie of children occupied for most of the time we were there( ages from 6 upwards ).
The tent pitches are large and at the top end of the site away from caravans. Unless you specify a pitch at the very top most of the pitches are on a steepish slope. We were fortunate to have the top row to pitch on which has amazing views over the tyne valley... however it is a hike getting back from the toilets as it is a very steep climb ( fortified by dark rum the last trip at night didn't seem that bad !)
All in all we had an exremeley pleasant weekend at this site, our only gripe being we were asked to take down our jolly roger flag which we always fly when we camp, however I would give this site 7/10 ....worth a visit.

At the top of a very long hill - beware walkers and cyclists. Nice views and well managed but quite expensive. Free showers which are good.
Hexham is a nice market town but I'm not sure you'd walk down for an evening out as you would have a long climb back afterwards. Good for Hadrian's wall and the Tyne valley.

July 2003 Just back from having spent 5 glorious nights at this very pleasant and very well maintained campsite. Definately worth a visit, both the owners and wardens are extemely friendly and very hospitable. Large tent pitches all near to shower and toilet block (which makes a change). Fantastic views, peaceful and quiet. Definately going back.
