Went with 2 other families 6 adults and 5 kids 7/13 all with EHU's. Raining on arrival until tent was up then out came the sun for the whole weekend, field drained really quickly so grass was soon dry. Lovely site, the field we stayed in was a little bowl shaped so you need to get one of the middle more level pitches. Only our group in tents on the site so we had our pick. Site next to beach so a little windy at times but beautiful beach to walk. Toilet block was clean although the showers didn't look to clever, but once you were in the water was very hot and plentiful (although there were only 2 showers in mens side). Decent club house with a friendly bunch & a good pint. Nice walk about 1 mile into Beckermet where there are a couple of good pubs doing food. Only down side is a long drag from M6 and a slightly spoilt view with Selafield being so close but hey none of us came back glowing so would definitely visit again.

Stayed at Tarnside for the Bank Holiday Weekend and as first time campers, could not have asked for better! On arrival, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful - we were even offered a choice of pitches. The site itself is very well maintained, clean and tidy, with a lovely lake at the bottom end. The facilities were very adequate, with clean toilets and showering areas and a small pot wash area. The entrance to the site is along a very tight windy road, which at first is daunting, but once you get familiar with it, it's not too bad.
No real down side, only that there is no shop on the site, but you can't have everything!

I have just come back from my 1st ever stay at Tarnside, I had no idea what to expect from this site but I was very happy to have stayed there. It has a club/restaurant, toilets, showers and a laundrette the only thing it was missing was a camp shop but you cant have everything.
There is a nice walk down to the beach which my children had fun paddling in the bay and 10 minutes down the road you can have a look around Selafield. In the other direction there is st bees a lovely little place with a beautiful beach.
I have 3 children who enjoyed themselves thoroughly, my dad came with us in his tent and he couldn't get over the amount of space each pitch was given, plenty of room between tents you didn't feel hemmed in.
My husband is an angler so the added bonus for him was the fishing lake just a short walk from where our tent was pitched and having spoken to the people from the site he was told if he tells them the next time we book that he wants to fish then he will be given a pitch nearer to the lake. The people at this spot where very friendly and helpful they were so laid back it made you feel very relaxed around them.
One downside for me was the narrow windy lanes we had to go down to get to the site, I dont travel very well down windy lanes I get very nervous about cars coming the other way and how they pass each other, but on saying that we went in and out of the site on a number of occassions and managed the lanes with no problems. I would go to Tarnside again my whole family enjoyed it.

This is primarily a static caravan park, with a limited touring area. The touring area is allocated to a dip in the field beyond the tarn and surrounded by static caravans. Whilst you are very close to the sea and potentially mountains you can see neither from the pitches used. Hook up we suspect is only 10amp as the trip switch went a couple of times. The toilet block was cold although the water hot. An on site restaurant is available, but looks uninviting.
The biggest issue is if you are arriving from the south through Beckermet, do not take the left turn from the village signed to the site. There is another sign just into this road advising not suitable for HGV's or caravans. The road is not suitable as it is narrow, has some tight bends and a narrow bridge just before Braystones itself. Continue on the A595 beyond Beckermet to next junction L, and follow signs from there.
