Arrived around 9:30pm on a Friday night. Nobody at the site, but a quick phone call sorted that out. Only one other tent in the field, as well as a handful of caravans.

Owner seemed very friendly and helpful. Pitches were charged at a very reasonable £7 each (or £10 for larger tents I believe).

Site is in a good location - 20 minutes drive from Alton Towers, and 5 minutes from nearby Uttoxeter (which has a 24hr Tesco, various restaurants and probably some nightlife as well).

Amenities were very basic - one outhouse-style toilet attached to the house next to the field (easily walking distance from the tent pitching area). This was fine for our visit, however not sure how this would be if the site was busier. There is no shower at this site, which was a disappointment as we were staying for two nights. We found an Extra service station that had a free shower approximately 10 minutes drive away (at the A50/A38 junction).

Site is located on a roundabout, however this didn't affect our visit as traffic was only light throughout the night.

I would recommend this site based on location and value for money.

When we phoned the site to book we were told the price was £7 per night, but were charged £10 (this was on the second day so we had already been there one night). There is only a single toilet (with no washbasin) for the whole site. There is nowhere to empty waste water and campers are told to 'throw it in the hedge', and the chemical toilet disposal is the single most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed. The manhole is covered in a mesh so that everything poured into it gets caught on top of the manhole - dreadful. There is also the strange business of Cavendish Cottage itself, which although adjacent to the field and being the site of the toilet and Elsan disposal is NOTHING to do with the campsite itsel. I have stayed at many sites with limited facilities (£7 a night on average)and those facilities have always been clean, whereas this place can only be described as GRIM. There are thirteen hookups in space for 6 units max, but the pub and village shop are nice.

Only stayed one night so didn't really see anything except the site is right next to the road which didn't inconvenience us but if you were staying longer you might not like it.

The field seemed well spaced for pitches - we managed to get stuck and the owner organised a local farmer to tow us out!

This is a very good site even though the ammenities are basic, we really enjoyed ourselves here. There is a big open field that my kids had a great time on and the owner George is a lovely man, its really easy to find and only 2 min drive into Uttoxeter.

Good local pub opposite site with childrens area in pub garden. I will definately be returning later in the year and really recommend it, but bear in mind the lack of facilities.
