August 2003 A quiet site on a working (?) farm. The ? is because the farmer is retiring having already sold off the animals. The caravan/camping site is being retired also at the end of this season, October 2003. The site lies at the top of a hill each side of which is a 1:7 hill to drag the caravan up!
Friendly proprietors but no longer any coffee lounge, milk or paper service. Also they charge £1 for each and every child regardless of age (first site I've visited which charges for under 5's, perhaps I've been lucky in the past!)
A great and safe little site for the kids to play on (play area is pebbled and so the clothes/kids get disgustingly dusty).
Toilets ok but didn't use the showers - came home to bring hubby back to work and bathed the kids then!
This site is being turned over purely for storage so if you live in the area then it's a possible storage site for the future.

Late July / early August We had a very nice two night stay at this campsite. The owners were very friendly and the facilities were well kept.
There were two fields for tents and the only downside was that the field we were in was next to quite a noisy road.
There were quite a few caravans at the site so although there were only three showers in the block it didn't affect us while we were there - however, we are NOT early risers, so I couldn't comment on what they were like first thing!!
Fresh milk and help yourself freezer block facilities were available and Matlock was a short car ride away.
We have no kids, but there was a good play area and some animals to see and the campsite was lively.
We would definitely stay here again. There are holiday cottages on site, so perhaps next time we might stay in luxury.......

p.s We were grateful for the toilet paper suggestion! (see previous review)

April 2003 We really enjoyed this site. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is both child friendly and dog friendly. The facilities were basic, but very clean and tidy. Free showers. Reasonably priced pitches. Popular with canooists. Matlock centre is only a short car journey. For a walking holiday, you would need to drive a good distance to get into the hills. We would certainly recommend this site for camping. The caravan site area looked a little cramped though. There is a lovely little play area for the children too.

July 2003 This is a lovely site, very peaceful. Facilities very good, the toilets and shower blocks were very clean. Staff very friendly. Our two children enjoyed the play area very much. Do take your own toilet rolls though, as they only had the sharp paper variety when we visited. We would thoroughly recommend this site to everyone.

August 2001 This is an excellent site, the facilities are very clean. The owners extremely friendly and helpful, and bake homemade cakes (for sale!) too. There is not much to do on the site and you may have to travel by car for walking etc. However, it is used by a lot of campers both tent and caravans - and well worth a visit. I believe Wayside offer bed and breakfast, they also have a small cafe for meals etc. You can collect fresh milk from the farm daily. Dogs are welcome, there is plenty of open ground.
