Please note this site no longer offers pitches for touring caravans or motorhomes. It now has tent pitches, and glamping pods for hire.

Quirky site at edge of Penpont by A702, great location for visiting Drumlanrig castle which is an easy 3 ½ mile bike ride from site. Site in three areas, main site has statics around the perimeter of the touring pitch area, ‘hardstanding’ pitches adjoin road, and lovely glen by river for tenters. The river is okay for fishing if you bring a rod and knowledge! ‘Reto’ 1960’s shower block including wet feet and clothes – but plenty of hot water and good showers. No surfaced or hardstanding next to water supply, watch out for boggy ground as I got stuck and needed a tow out (site manager didn’t warn of any problem). Easy stroll into village with tea room/post office and small store. Great little (old fashioned) site, and at £ 15/night with electric what more do you need?

This is a splendid caravan site in a lovely location between Dumfries and Ayr, just off the A76.
The facilities were always clean with excellent hot showers at no extra cost. Levelling blocks may be required on some of the pitches.
Shop/newsagents and tea-room close by in Penpont village (but no pub here). There are more shopping facilities and good pub food in Thornhill, about 2 miles away, which can easily be reached by bicycle.
All in all this is a quiet, well-run and recommended site. We would certainly go back!

What can I say, its a lovely site! very very clean toilets and showers,in fact the whole site is maintained to a high standard. The owners very friendly and helpful, even down to recomending good walks and things to do in the area. Penpont village is 2 mins walk away, while Thornhill is around 2 miles away and has everything you need.

Two nights in August, Friday and Saturday. Extremely wet weather! The site has a mixture of statics (they look quite well-used) tourers and tents, although the tents seem to be sited in their own field away from the tourers. Site is quite sloping but gentle enough to make levelling pretty easy. Several of the caravans look as though they are permanent. There are a limited number of hook-ups. The site has one shower/toilet block which is kept scrupulously clean; comprising two cubicles/two showers in each male and equivalent in female area, separated by the laundry facilities which include the chemical disposal point. There has clearly been investment in these facilities. The showers are very large, but would benefit from a dressing area annexed. Water was hot and powerful. There is no site security barrier, and the site entrance is best taken from the Thornhill side. Exiting in either direction requires an eagle eye and definitely two people for safe exit. The site affords lovely views (for tourers anyway, I wouldn't bet the tenters have an views) and is surrounded by livestock and other fields. Very tranquil and peaceful. There appears to be no definition to the pitches, and although the site is large, we were joined for one night by a very close neighbour (about 6 foot away) when it appeared to us they could have pitched much further away. This at the owners behest, and we couldn't figure why except they were a single nighter and it could ahve been they wanted to get power too (hook ups being limited as we said. Penpont has a well stocked shop (in that it stocks what you need) and one pub/hotel and a Post Office. Thornhill (4 miles ish) has take aways, mini-marts and more hotels/pubs plus a selection of nice shops. Dumfries (13 miles) has all the usual market town services and attractions. The site owners were very visible on our stay, making frequent inspections, tidying up and maintaining things. Their house overlooks the site. In our opinion an ideal site if you want a base for an active holiday (waliking/cycling/fishing all available in the immediate vicinity) or a quiet base to explore Eastern Dumfries and Galloway. Kids would need to be keen on outdoor pursuits unless you are OK with the easy drive to Dumfries.

If you want a lovely quiet holiday surrounded by beautiful countryside, fresh air and beautiful little villages then this is exactly that. A Lovely clean, Quiet (Apart from my 3 Kids), tidy site with good toilet and shower blocks. Not a site really for young kids as there is nothing on site or very local. (This may change in the future) The nearest Pub/Restaurant is a 5 Mins away as is the local shop. The site is a lovely place as is the surrounding areas and I will Definely visit it again in the future (minus the kids). The new owners are lovely people, very helpful who are working hard to inprove the site.
