Cheapish site with basic old facilities but the smaller top block is newer and has paper. I only saw the top field, for tourers, where the tents have a small strip on a slope.
A lot of long term tourers take up most of the field. Lots of kids around at this time, noisy but settled down by 10. Site is noisy from main road alongside. Not my favourite, but not too bad if you aren't particular.
It's a fair walk to the beach through a wild wood
Porthcawl is a typical old resort, quite pleasant but the area is nothing special.

Lovely cheap get away site. However with a growing teen we need somewhere with more on site, was ok when he was 5/6.
A safe haven if the children play hide and seek without telling you, we had most of the park looking for my son who was at the toilets.

Been using this site for many years, always found staff very friendly and helpful. Close to beach, and a short drive to town center, or good bus service.
New shower block, Water hot if you use first thing in morning, but does cool down a little as day goes on when well used.

Staff are really friendly and helpful. New shower block. Seasonal pitch holders so helpful. Security great. Relaxing atmosphere. Right on bus route to Porthcawl.
Facilities maybe sixties but staff over compensate for this. If you want inexpensive holiday and want to teach children to go back to nature and enjoy themselves with lure of fun park ( which is 5 mins away as a one off treat) then this is the place for you.

We visited this park as a member of the camping and caravan club. Situated on the top field with stunning views over rest bay.
BUT! even though the grass was cut it was still 10' long which meant my little three year old was wading down the field. Scrap caravans down one side of the field, with a half destroyed static up the end of the lane.
The toilets were basic but clean, toilet paper would be nice though. The club house, shops, chippy were all clean but stuck in the sixties.
This place could be stunning if some money was invested, but a really lonely place for children. Real shame.

We were part of a CCC Rally in a field at the top of the site. Lovely view overlooking the sea. All facilities were available to us but we only only used the shop (expensive) and then had fish n chips before we left (very nice). There were lots of children about but didn't really seem much for them to do, lots of signs up saying, No cycling, No scooters No rollerblades etc!
We walked out of the site and along the public footpath to the beach, a bit steep through the woods on the way back up but well worth it. The path brings you out onto open land behind the sandunes, there are many paths to take but all lead onto a fantastic beach, this was mid August and there was hardly anyone on it! Our dogs had a great time and were well worn out every day.
Although dogs were allowed in our field be warned the actual Happy Valley site has restrictions on 'certain types' of Dogs! don't get me started!
All in all a lovely 4 days with some great weather!

We stayed at this campsite last year our holiday was good however there is little for kids to do. We did not go to the club house as it feels segregated from the tent part, we had a good time with the neighbours that stayed next to us. We tried to book again this year and they were fully booked. The Chinese food on the campsite was worth the money and very nice to eat. However the campsite is on a slope and we have worked out that we had put our tent the wrong way around.! I would like to make people aware that the fern hedge by the bin was full of wasps so we were constantly on our guard as I'm allergic to stings

What a lovely site, the owners were funny and lovely and made us feel very welcome when we booked in.
Very near to the shop and also a club house.
The toilets were clean and basic. Not much to do for the young ones but there's enough kids playing to make their own fun. Will definitely be going back there again as we thoroughly enjoyed it x
Also cheap at 13.50 a night,, a bloody bargain :)))

May 2005 The site is in two distinct parts, tourers/tents and statics seperated by a 200yd walk down a quiet-ish (site trafic only) road. No hookups available for tents. The static site has a shop selling the basics and a clubhouse. We didn't go to the clubhouse but it appeared to have karoke of similar in the evening.
The tourers were mostly permanently stationed (little fences around them and gnomes! etc). The tents are pitched on a sloping field - not too bad a slope in most places.
The toilet facilities are basic and not very clean. The showers are in generously sized cubicles and very-hot in the morning (to the point of being intollerable). There was a laundry that we didn't use although I did notice that one of the two driers was out of action. There were no seperate dishwashing facilties.
The people visiting the site were mostly Welsh weekenders (remeber tho this was May) and friendly. Threre are no views to speak of and you can hear the traffic on the main road.
The beach is within walking distance but its a bit of a trudge incuding some steep narrow bits, and uphill all the way back (dont go heavily laden)or with a pushchair. (We never made it all the way to the beach so I can't comment on that).
In summary it was OK for a couple of days and within eash reach of Porthcawl by car.
