What a gem of a site. Caravan club CL so just 5 pitchesb but all fully serviced with free Wifi. Told to pitch where we wanted the owners checked that we were ok later. Good toilets, recycling and lots of wildlife. Some road noise but we soon got used to it. Good dog walks nearby and unusually for CL site wifi free and good strength. Wcs and grass kept immaculate and owners really friendly.
Lots to do in area recommend Maldon, Frinton and Mersea island. Site fees good and though you pay for electricity it was very reasonable. A superb site we'll be back.

Great little site. We turned up and had not booked. The site owners were more than helpful. The toilets are very clean and warm but there are no showers, this was clearly stated in all the information so not a problem. You pay for your pitch which was great value for money and then only pay for as much electricity as you use on the meter.
It is next to a lovely Golf club/ spar and there are lots of footpaths to explore.
It is next to the road but wasn't much noise and is easy to find.

Back again to stay at this lovely CL so that we can check everything on the caravan works after the winter, and to have a couple of days with our friends at Colchester. Lovely welcome and chat with the owners - really friendly couple. As always, the toilets were really clean and the site was immaculate. Lovely load of daffodils adding some beautiful colour to the site. Electricity cost has gone up very slightly due to N-Power increase, but still very reasonable.
Met a couple from Norfolk who had stayed for 4 nights who were also delighted with this CL.
We will be back again for sure next year, and maybe again during this year if we can plan it.

A small site next door to a large spa across the road from the golf club site entrance can soon be missed. The toilets were in a portable cabin, in the ladies there were two loos and two basins, no showers, they were always very clean. At the other side of the site was another portable cabin with washer dryer and detergent dispenser and a few pamphlets on the area bus time tables too. There was a bus that stopped at the end of the drive (you flagged it down) into Colchester, please check time table for times, they were a bit odd. The golf club was open to non members and the spa also, you could book treatments and I believe you could use the beautiful pool, but we just called for a coffee. The bar is open to non members and the food looked good. Colchester is a lovely town and well worth a visit with lots of shops bars and places to eat. It was a long walk for me to the nearest shop so go well stocked if in a motor home. We would use the site again if in the area. The electric was metered but price was very reasonable.

Lovely little cert. Site. Very handy for Colchester shopping, Colchester Zoo, Mersea Island. Toilets are kept clean. Very peaceful with very little traffic noise' Owner attentive to your needs but otherwise leaves you alone. The view from the site is over parkland to a large house in the distance 'No shops really within reasonable walking distance but this didn't worry us. We shall certainly be going back there.

Stayed here again this year at this great CL for an overnight stay so that we could visit our friends in Colchester.
We had arranged to stay on one night only for our friends to say that they had double-booked us, so we had to rebook, but the Owners could not have been nicer when we advised them - fantastic customer service.
As always, very clean toilets and sinks in the portacabin and a very tidy site. Great view across the driveway and fields that lead to the Spa next door (based in the mansion that presumably this Lodge attached to in the old days).
The site is nice and easy to find (we followed our sat-nav from the A12 with no problems) and it is also simple to get into Colchester and surrounding attractions.
Thanks again Caren for a lovely stay. See you next year!

It is a pity we did not come across this little gem when our daughter first moved to Colchester and not as she is about to leave.
This has got to be one of the best value CL's we have used in all the years caravanning. The setting is great and the metering of electric is a good idea. The free wi-fi is excellent, Club sites charge a fortune for this. When we arrived the owner greeted us explained the electric system then went and made 2 mugs of tea, couldn't have been better. The parking of cars away from the vans is a good idea, giving the site an even bigger feeling than it actually is.

We used the site as a stopover on our way back from touring Norfolk it was convenient for a visit to an old friend.
With only 5 pitches it is obviously quiet and tidy, the facilities were excellent, there is a sports centre and golf course next door and a retail park including supermarket fairly close by.
A good base for touring I would imagine, especially by bike as the surrounding area it is relatively flat
Very reasonable charges and helpful friendly owners.
The electricity is metered but the charge is not unreasonable, also free Wi-Fi.

We stayed overnight at this great CL. The owners are extremely friendly and very helpful. The site borders Kingsford Park and we had a great view from the caravan, and is very close to Colchester Zoo, which was our reason for being in Colchester, and is a great day out for kids and parents alike.
There is a toilet block with separate male and female toilet and sink which were kept spotlessly clean. There is also a metal shed that has coin operated Washing Machine and separate Tumble Dryer - very handy if you are planning to spend a longer time at this site. Both unusual to be found on Caravan Club CL site. The electricity is metered, but this is reasonably charged too. We also visited friends in Colchester on the Sunday and the owners very kindly said that we could leave the caravan on the pitch as no-one was staying on it, which made it much easier for us. They also pointed out a kids playground in the nearby village Layer-de-la-Haye which is 2 mins in the car - there is no playground on site, but site is set well back from the road and all cars have to be parked in the car park as soon as unhitched. We shall definitely be revisting this great little site again as it was first-rate.
