Please note this location no longer offers touring or camping pitches, it now has static caravans only.
If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Site chosen as nearest to Cockermouth for Jennings Brewery Easter event.
A medium size static site with area for around a dozen tourers having 8 EHUs.
Shower block dated, cold and just about clean but only 1basic shower.
Reception friendly and not expensive

Wyndham Hall sounds pretty smart - Well it isn't.
Very disappointed with this site and it's facilities.
I would suggest to the management to stop taking tents and tourers until you get the place sorted out. The shower/toilet facilities are a disgrace and are not fit for purpose.
The field is poor without level or marked pitches and you are made to feel like a poor relation to the static vans on the site, although even they look a bit old and tired.
The worst part is the shower block, the basins are mismatched and poorly fitted, the shower is dirty with decaying silicone and the washing up facilities are dilapidated.

Stayed here for one night only. The Tent pitches are generally quite flat and well spaced apart. There are a large amount of statics on site and some nice looking lodges on the way into the site. Not much room for tents which is ok as it doesn't get too busy.
The facilities for tourers / campers are very basic.
They only have one shower for male and female.
Only one wash up sink on site, so in busier periods this could lead to queues.
The let down is they have no baby facilities on site which is something they should look into.
The club house is ok, fully licensed bar, bouncy castle for kids etc. No Shop but the village of Cockermouth is not to far away for essential items.
It is an okay site but just lacks some basic essentials for campers.

The site is within walking distance of Cockermouth, which is a nice town in the Lake District, and not so overrun as much of the rest of the Lake District. Well enough situated for day trips to Keswick, Derwent Water in the north of the Lake District.
The site caters mostly for statics and a few cabins, with not a lot of space for tourers. Consequently, the toilet/shower facilities for tourers aren't great.
It just all feels a bit basic and run-down.
It's OK for a one-night stopover, which is what we usually do, but wouldn't suit us for an extended stay.

There is Wordsworth House in the town, birthplace of William Wordsworth which you can visit.
There are many shops in the town, three supermarkets, two petrol stations, many pubs, restaurants, indian restaurants and take aways, chinese restaurants and take aways, a library, chemists, and a golf course nearby, a swimming pool and sports centre nearby, a gymnasium in the town and a cafe with a children's play area inside.
There is a children's play area at Embleton village about a mile away.
Bassenthwaite Lake is about 3 miles away, and Derwentwater Lake is about 12 miles away, and Buttermere is not far to drive to. There are many visitor attractions within short driving distance. Trotters Animal Farm is only about 5 miles away.
You do need a car to enjoy the area. There are electric hook ups available for tourers. There is a toilet/shower block for tourers which is basic. There are pool tables and table tennis available and there is a TV room.
You do need to take your own sheets and pillowcases for the beds and your own towels and tea towels.

We didn't actually stay on this site - we intended to, but drove round to look at where tents had to be pitched, and looked at the facilities and drove off! I can only echo what the 2002 reviewer said. The toilets were O.K. But there was a very scruffy single shower in the Ladies operated with two old fashioned brass taps which I assume one would have to adjust whilst showering. Washing up sink - just one - was situated outside the facilities block. And such a small area for tents! Mainly for static holiday vans and maybe a few tourers. Not for us!

May 2005 Excellent friendly clean site. Nothing was too much trouble and the amenities were spotless. The check in was swift and efficient the pitch was away near the amenities and well protected from the elements. Lovely stream running through the site and an excellent club house with entertainment. Wonderful time had by all.

2002 We waited from 8:00 till 10:00 to be shown where our pitch was . The pitches were very water logged which we could only suggest was down to bad drainage of the area .There was only one toilet block for a large site, the toilets were very basic and not well maintained and had tracing paper toilet tissue and so everyone bought and took their own.
There was only one shower in each ladies and gents which comprised of a shower head, taps and cubilcle base they were scruffy and not well looked after. The stand tap that we pressume was drinking water nr the wc block were used to clean out the chemical disposal toilets by some of the others there. The hot taps were extremley hot but were not labeled as such and you could have easily been scolded.
The amenities there for the children were basic and tatty eg:table tennis net broke bats and ball nowhere to be seen ,bar football the ball was crushed and there was no other and the play area(swings, playhouse roundabout) was at the front of the site and so near the road.
